Inclusion On Ice A Fantastic Event
This Sunday, Ohio Valley residents of all ability levels will get the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of ice skating.
Inclusion on Ice returns for its fourth year from 1-4 p.m. at the Wheeling Park Ice Rink. It’s a day that gives children and adults alike the chance to take to the ice in an inclusive environment.
The event was the brainchild of David George, who enlisted the help of Easterseals, Augusta Levy Behavioral Services and the Wheeling Nailers.
“As each year has gone by, we have seen an increase in the number of participants attend our event from different age brackets who make it obvious that they are enjoying themselves as they engage with others in the community that they live in,” George said.
Coordinated by two of the preeminent disability service organizations in the Ohio Valley, Inclusion on Ice provides children and adults, now matter what their skating skill level, an outlet to have fun. Adaptive equipment will be available, including walkers and hockey sleds.
“This event ensures that individuals of all abilities have the opportunity to experience the joy, freedom and confidence that comes with ice skating — an activity that should be available to everyone,” said Wheeling Park Director Nat Goudy. “Inclusion on Ice strengthens our community by bringing families, caregivers and participants together in a shared space of encouragement and celebration.”
It’s not just a skating event. Local businesses will provide selfie stations, inflatables, donuts and more. Augusta Levy will provide a sensory room and nearly two dozen organizations will participate in a resource fair.
Inclusion on Ice lives up to its name. Anyone who would enjoy a few trips around the ice and more should join in.
