Help Out With Easter Giveaway
The holiday giveaways put together by Bishop Darrell Cummings and Bethlehem Apostolic Temple have, for decades, been an example of the best that people in the Ohio Valley can be. Cummings and his church have made sure for so long that those in the valley who are struggling have food for a full family meal on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, that children have toys at Christmas and dresses and suits for Easter, and that students have the needed supplies for the start of school.
For this Easter giveaway, set for 11 a.m. April 4 at the North Wheeling Dream Center, Cummings made a concerning admission – there is no lead sponsor for the event. Item purchases are being made on credit and layaway.
“We’re just stepping out on faith,” he said. “Things are going but it’s a little bit slower, and we’re more nervous because haven’t had the support we’ve had in the past. We will continue to do our best.
“We believe God has called us to it and he will make a way,” Cummings added. “If not, we will have to decide if he does want us to continue. But we believe he wants us to.”
Times are tough for everyone these days. Prices for food, fuel and other items continue to rise. Even those who consider themselves comfortable are feeling the squeeze. But that makes it even more important that those who are in serious need get help during the holidays.
Cummings and his church have been there for those struggling for so long, it’s time for the Ohio Valley to help him in kind. The church is holding a “Stuff the Bus” event from 4-6 p.m. April 2 at the Elm Grove Riesbeck’s. At that time, volunteers will be accepting food and cash donations for the April 4 giveaway. Folks also can donate online at greaterloveministries.org.
Cummings and Bethlehem Apostolic Temple have helped so many for so long. The Ohio Valley should step up to help them carry on their mission.
