‘Rise Against Hunger’ a Commendable Project

On an unassuming Saturday morning, a group of Ohio Valley residents helped feed tens of thousands across the globe.

The annual “Rise Against Hunger” meal-packing event was held this past weekend at St. Jude’s Church Hall in Glen Dale. There, participants packed 30,000 meals that will be distributed worldwide to areas in need. It was put together by the Rotary Clubs of Wheeling, Moundsville and New Martinsville.

“Obviously, we’ve got to feed people meals around the world. There’s more than enough food to feed everybody in the world, but it’s not in the right places. So meal packs like these events give us the food that we need to send to places where they don’t have it,” event manager David Maurer said. “Rise Against Hunger is a little unique, because anywhere we go, we try to bring sustainability and resiliency, whether that looks like education, economics, and agriculture.”

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that folks in a small community can’t make a big difference. This group is helping those in dire straits all over the world to survive through the nourishment they’re providing with these meals.

Rotary Clubs do so much to help the communities around them. There projects do so much to make where they live better for them and their neighbors. This is just another example of the services they provide not just to their own region, but those elsewhere.

Those who participated this past weekend should feel a major sense of accomplishment. To positively affect that many people at once is definitely something to recognize and celebrate. Once again, kudos for another job well done.
