Elizabeth Romanek a Genuine Role Model For Mountain State
In a world where public images are often carefully curated and every message is meticulously crafted, authenticity can be difficult to find.
That is one of the reasons why Wheeling native Elizabeth Romanek’s message resonated so strongly Saturday evening in Martinsburg as she was crowned Miss West Virginia 2026.
For decades, the Miss West Virginia Competition has celebrated intelligence, talent, poise and a commitment to service. Yet Romanek demonstrated that one quality may matter more than any other in today’s world: genuineness.
Romanek impressed judges and audiences throughout the competition, earning top honors in the talent portion with a jazz routine to Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
Her performance showcased the discipline, preparation and confidence required to succeed on any stage.
But perhaps her greatest strength is the example she hopes to set.
“I hope people will remember my authenticity and positivity,” Romanek said after her victory.
At a time when social media often rewards perfection over sincerity, Romanek’s commitment to being herself is very refreshing.
Her determination to lead with confidence while remaining true to who she is offers an important lesson, especially for young West Virginians searching for role models.
Romanek’s roots make her accomplishment even more meaningful. A graduate of Wheeling Park High School and West Virginia University, she now serves as assistant director of admissions and recruitment events at Bethany College. She embodies the talent, work ethic and optimism found throughout the Mountain State.
As she begins her year as Miss West Virginia, Romanek will serve as an ambassador for our state. If she leads with the authenticity and positivity she values so highly, she will represent West Virginia well.
We congratulate Romanek not only for winning a crown, but for reminding us that being genuine never goes out of style.
