We sit mere days away from one of the busiest nights of the year. Halloween is fast approaching and nearly every community in the Ohio Valley will hold their trick or treating on Saturday, Oct. 31. The fact it won't fall on a school night means even more ghosts and goblins and princesses and superheroes will canvass the neighborhoods looking for their favorite candy.
This means adults, especially drivers, should be extra careful as they travel, both through neighborhoods with their children and on the roads in their vehicles. Parents will do their best to make surde their little ones will walk along the sidewalks safely, but there's always the chance of a child darting out into the street.
The biggest thing for motorists is obvious -- take it slow through the neighborhoods. If you see a throng of costumed children, there’s your cue to take your foot off the gas. Take it easy around turns, especially blind turns. Be cognizant of stop signs.
And for parents taking their kids door to door, make sure your young ones wear something reflective whether on their costume, their shoes or their goody bag. Make sure drivers will see them.
Halloween is one of the best nights of the year, and it's made even better when everyone stays safe and sound.
