Pets, the Wonder Drug

Editor, News-Register:

I know a drug that can:

1. — Lower your blood pressure.

2. — Calm your nerves.

3. — Pick up your spirits.

4. — Help you forget all of your problems.

5. — Make you feel warm inside.

In other words, turn that frown upside down.

And that drug is:

Several years ago, my brother passed away. He died of complications of diabetes and several small strokes.

His decline was hard and difficult. The strokes destroyed his motor skills to the pointhe could not take care of himself. His eyesight went bad and he needed 24/7 care, which was provided by professional help, family and friends.

Being a strong man physically, it was extremely difficult forhim to handle the condition he found himself in. As he declined physically, so did his mental state.

It became extremely hard for everyone to be with him, because of the pain he was in that was expressed to those around him.

Then one day, we went to the local animal shelter and got him a cat to call his own.

“Oh, my God,” it was like heaven opened up and shone a beam of love and light on my brother. He was so happy with the little guy, and named him “Percy.”

His attitude changed from darkness into light! Percy was always with him, loyally by his side 24/7, truly turning his frown upside down.

Yes, this little furry friend was his wonder drug!

There are plenty of these — dogs and cats — available at your local animal shelter.

Warning: Extremely addictive!

PS — Percy has since passed, but he made my brother’s life so much richer.
