Their Mothers Are Worried Sick
This letter is in response to the letter from Harry C. Hamm Jr. in the April 11 Sunday News Register. Mr. Hamm asks “Where are the mothers?” referring to the mothers of the unaccompanied children. As a mother and grandmother myself, I suspect many of them are worried sick and crying for their children.
Mr. Hamm wrote about his mother. There is no doubt in my mind that the mothers of these children love them as much as Mr. Hamm’s mother loved him and his 11 siblings because these mothers loved their children enough to let them go to save their lives.
These children, and the other asylum seekers, are not rapists, murderers, or drug dealers. They are running for their lives from violence, poverty, and hunger.
It is not fair to blame the current situation at our southern border on the Biden Administration. The former administration failed miserably with its immigration policy and actually snatched babies from their mothers’ arms.
I wonder what action Mr. Hamm took when that and all the other parent-child separations were reported. I hope he contacted his legislators and the former administration in the White House to urge them to change their cruel policies and to treat the asylum seekers humanely.
