Working to Clean Up Wheeling
I want to take a moment to thank The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register for all of the support, encouragement, and public awareness that you have provided for not only the Wheeling Island Cleanup, but all of the numerous neighborhood cleanup projects that have taken place recently. I can’t begin to even express how exciting it is to see so many community leaders and organizations stepping up to the plate with armies of volunteers to make our community a better place. I believe you said it best when you recently said it “takes a community” (and an island). “Cleaning up our neighborhoods and streets” really does more for our community than the effect of those few simple words. It brings neighbors together. It builds community spirit and pride. It fosters relationships. Most importantly it gives people something to be proud of … and it is contagious. The work we are doing right now in our community, as a whole, has the potential to positively impact the quality of life for thousands of residents in our city for years to come, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you personally for being an incredibly helpful and influential part of the movement.
