Develop Wind and Solar in W.Va.
I read the article in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel for July 13, 2021 where Representative McKinley was in Parkersburg talking about carbon capture and the need to invest in it instead of eliminating coal and gas powered generation of our electricity.
From the scorching heat, the wildfires, floods, it is apparent that we are in a climate crisis. The Representative said it would take 4,250 windmills to produce 3,000 megawatts of energy. He said he didn’t think West Virginia wanted to give up the amount of land needed for that many windmills (850 square miles). How about we build the windmills on the sites of the mountain top mines in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee (over 500). Since nothing will grow on these sites for centuries, why not plant windmills? I ask the representative if he has seen the windmills in Iowa, or South Dakota? They work well on farms where crops are raised and sheep and cattle graze.
We need to act now. We need to invest in solar and wind and close down the fossil fuels.
