Helping Animals at the Shelter

Editor, News-Register: There’s been a lot lately re: Belmont County Animal Shelter. I am very happy as well as others a new building is in the works. The current kennels that house the dogs are certainly not safe. Plans of a new building have been spoken about for years. Plans for a new building were drawn up several years back. Why can’t they use those plans, find the property and let’s get it done. There have been a lot of cash donations of estates that can get it started. Colliding With Past on Main Street

Editor, News-Register: The article in the April 30th edition of The Intelligence about the train car being found buried at Main and 16th streets was more than interesting. An old pamphlet titled “Leading Events,” giving wheeling history from 1800 to 1908, lists several B&O train accidents. On May 9, 1881, an engine and cars plunged through the bridge near the city station. Also on June 2, 1893, an engine jumped the tracks at Main Street, plunging into the Higgins building. Editor, News-Register: The Friends of OVMC and their efforts to preserve a piece of history from the wrecking ball are to be praised, and the WVU Medicine decision-makers would do well to consider their requests. Editor, News-Register: There are just too many people in the world with too much time on their hands, bringing ill will toward specific races, nationalities and groups. What is Carlee Dittmar trying to prove with what seems to be a hatred of the LGBT community? Editor, News-Register: This coming Saturday, June 3, the Brooke/Hancock American Cancer Society Relay for Life Walk will take place at Wellsburg’s Central Park(18th and Charles Streets) beginning at 6 p.m. This wonderful and helpful fundraising event is chaired by Tammy Hornick and Della Serevicz. You can meet these ladies at the relay, selling luminarias. You can purchase one to honor your loved ones. These luminaries will line the walk and will shine on for hope and a cure for cancer.
