Time To Invest in West Virginia

Editor, News-Register: As far as I can tell, West Virginia is still at the bottom of the states as far as hunger goes. Yes, West Virginia has a higher minimum wage than Kentucky and Pennsylvania but lower than the other surrounding states. Maybe if our legislators in Charleston would look to raise the state minimum wage and make the state worker friendly by getting rid of “Right to Work” we would not be losing population. More and More Studies

Editor, News-Register: Here we go again, another million plus for feasibility studies. The taxpayers will spend $400,000 to study moving the public bus location from front of garage to back of garage. Why don’t we save money and leave it where it is — on the main drag where it belongs and can be seen. Also $730,000 for another study on second interchange for The Highlands. Didn’t we already have a study? Quit wasting money on studies and put it into building the interchange. It seems that all the city and state like to do is study at taxpayers expense. Gratitude for the Helpers

Editor, News-Register: I want to express sincere gratitude to all who helped make the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Annual Food Drive 2022 a success. The drive would not be a success without all the generous and kindhearted community members who stepped up and lent assistance. Editor, News-Register: I’m guessing before Jan. 2nd of this year very few of even the most ardent NFL fans knew who Damar Hamlin was. Even Buffalo Bills and Pitt Panther fans would have a tough time knowing him, or say “Oh yeah, that guy, number 3.” Now everyone knows him, or at least they say, “The player from Buffalo.” On the other side, a fellow Pittsburgher, Justin McIntire, had far worse misfortune while doing his job for far less money, recognition, and admiration just the day before. Senior Center Needed

Editor, News-Register: I get it that young family residents are needed in Wheeling, but it’s often the older people who are spending lots of money and doing charity work in the area. Since there is a surplus of money, how about building Wheeling a state of the art Senior Center. I have lived all over the U.S., and most communities of this size have senior centers. Reopen the Manchester Bridge

Editor, News-Register: Well Mr. Mayor, Gov. Jim Justice announced that there is money available for bridges that are not owned by the state, something like $500 million.
