Is Diversity Coordinator Needed?

Editor, News-Register: Has it been established by fact that the reason(s) cited for the need of a “diversity and inclusion” position in the city of Wheeling and Ohio County are indeed valid? What examples of either statistics and/or other factors exist to substantiate the need? What are the “base” criteria used to determine the absence of “diversity” and “inclusion?” Exactly what is the definition of each? What exactly are concrete examples of the absence of each in the city and county? Could this move be one that is diametrically opposite of the direction of ...

A Letter to Donald John Trump

Editor, News-Register: Dear The Donald: You are so lost. Perhaps you should just plead guilty and save us the wasted time of trying you for sedition/treason/disgusting behavior and turn yourself in for incarceration in the hole — where no one has to look at or hear from you — for the rest of your life. Enough sarcasm. How about some anger, Donald? How dare you, former President of the United States, denigrate our beloved Constitution and the Rule of Law defined therein? Don’t Silence Voice of the People

Editor, News-Register: Citizen-led ballot initiatives have been an integral method for the citizens of the state of Ohio to actively participate in our democracy and inform their elected officials of their wishes for over 100 years. That may change with House Joint Resolution 6. This resolution seeks to deny us of our voice by requiring a super majority of 60% for passage when on the ballot but only if citizen led. Editor, News-Register: Last month, on the Interstate 70 west off-ramp headed toward W.Va. 2 south, just outside the Wheeling Tunnel, I was approaching the point where traffic merges on the ramp when a car ran through that STOP sign, traveling at a high rate of speed. Had our car been seconds different we would have been hit by the car that ran through the stop sign. We could have been seriously injured or killed. That was the closest I’ve ever been to an accident, due to an uncaring driver with no apparent concern for others. The West Virginia Division of Highways did recently ...

The fact is that the Commission favors lower cost generation over higher cost generation. It is often said that coal is not a cost-efficient electricity production fuel; that the cost of renewable resources from all technologies are dead even with coal-produced energy; and that West Virginians pay a lot more for electricity than customers in many other states. These statements are just not true. The U.S. Energy Information ...

Ukrainians are absorbing these blows with resilience and courage, but their endurance has limits. 3. Russia has more offensive weapons, including cheap drones, than Ukraine’s expensive defense weapons. 4. While we provide Ukraine’s defensive weapons, our supplies are running low. 5. China is backing Russia’s proxy war against us to deplete our ability to defend other places of interest to China. ...
