Editor, News-Register: In the upcoming 2023 legislative session, an effort will be made to give married persons the same legal protection in a sexual abuse situation that unmarried people already have. While not a topic that is discussed often, it is shocking that being married gives a spouse less legal protection after being a victim of certain forced sexual contact to which they did not consent. Editor, News-Register: As I understand economics, prices inflate because the demand for things exceeds the supply. So, how to increase the supply of goods? Get investors to invest in more production, and hire more workers. How to incentivize investors? Lower interest rates so they can borrow affordably. Why is the Federal Reserve raising interest rates? Editor, News-Register: In recent memory, our council and mayor have created numerous positions. After our city manager’s problems, an assistant manager position was created and then a spokesperson for the police department, and now a diversity position and another that I can’t think of (a homeless liaison).
