Plans are under way for the fourth annual "Field of Flags" in Cameron.
The display of flags will be held at Cameron's Veterans Park.
The event will again be held in conjunction with Memorial Day, which this year will be on May 25.
The flags will be on display from May 20-27.
Cameron American Legion No. 18 children and youth chairman and Field of Flags chairman Jim Rogers said, "The display enables families to honor veterans (past or present)."
It will cost $5 to have a flag displayed, whether it was shown in past years, or whether a person wishes to have a new flag.
The information on past-years flags was hand written, but since last year the data has been removed and replaced by new waterproof, laser-printed labels.
Flag orders are due no later than May 1.
The payment for each flag can be made by sending payment and the veterans' information to Cameron American Legion Post No. 18 at P.O. Box 235, Cameron, WV, 26033.
Those needing a form can pick one up at one of three downtown Cameron locations: BB&T, Greg's Market and Dragon Mart.
The form asks for the name of the person to be honored and the person's' branch of service. The person honoring the veteran is to list his or her name, address and telephone.
All proceeds will go for park improvement and maintenance.
The first year, there were 563 flags, which was increased to 612, and last year there were 673 flags.

Work began three weeks ago on the fieldhouse at Cameron High School field.
The work consists of a second story on a building which in the past has served as a concession stand, dressing rooms for football teams, game officials, and a practice area for the wrestling team following football season.
The addition will provide a larger concession stand, expanded dressing rooms for teams and officials, along with a much larger room for the CHS coaches, an archery facility, an area for use by cheerleaders, two new locker rooms, one of which will be used by junior high students; a dedicated wrestling room, and additional storage space.
The addition is scheduled to be completed in September.

Back to the Cameron American Legion, which was scheduled to have had its first reading of names for those seeking offices on April 13, but that meeting has since has been postponed, and thus the first and second readings will take place on May 11.
Post No. 18's current president is 95-year-old Bill Harris who is serving his 20th consecutive year in that capacity. One would believe he will be at the helm again when votes are cast.

Valley Fork Park in Moundsville has never had playground equipment at that site -- that is until this year.
The new equipment will consist of a four-person sliding board and a swinging area.
The cost for this undertaking was shared by Pirate Charities, the Moundsville Boys Baseball Association and the city of Moundsville.
The installation of the two pieces of equipment was done by Moundsville Parks and Recreation Department employees.
Although the equipment is in place, it will not be used, as playgrounds in the city are not being used at this time because of restrictions as the result of COVID-19.

Grand Vue Park has temporarily closed its cabins.
General Manager Craig White took the action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and President Donald Trump and Gov. Jim Justice's extension of the "Stay at Home" order.
White said, "Our goal is to keep the GVP Team and the Community Safe."
He added, "We continue to encourage persons to utilize the park for walking/running, disc golf, mountain biking, geocaching or by just enjoying the views of Marshall County from the park. We remind everyone to practice 'social distancing,' and keep all pets on a leash."

The park will continue to schedule all reservations (cabin, shelter or banquets) for any date after May 1 by online or by phone.
The maintenance staff will be present in the park during this time for general maintenance, lawn care and security rounds.
All buildings are closed to the public through April 30.
White concluded that he apologizes for the inconvenience and will continue to evaluate and make decisions based on the current recommendations.
