Marshall Memo: 4-H; Fall Clean-Up Dates; and Moundsville Youth Center
National 4-H Week was held this past week to recognize the importance of the opportunities for youth that build relationships, skills, and experiences that last a lifetime. The West Virginia University Extension Office once again joined in the celebration, with the theme “Opportunity4All.”
In West Virginia one in every four youths are involved in 4-H.
In Marshall County there are 13 community-based clubs as well as specialty clubs for Dogs, Dairy, Livestock, Goat and Rabbit, Horses, Shooting Sports, and Cloverbuds.
Marshall County offers two weeks of residential 4-H camps held along with Wetzel County.
Youths between the ages of 9 and 21 can join 4-H with a parent or guardian’s permission. Younger children ages 5 to 8, who are interested in 4-H, can join Cloverbuds.
The Marshall County clubs and their locations are:
– Apaches: Maxwell Acres Community Center.
– Balers: Limestone.
– Bandits: Cameron.
– Creekrunners: Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville.
– Go-Getters: Fork Ridge.
– Evershining: St. Joseph Settlement
– Farm Critters: Pleasant Valley.
– Hustlers: Dallas/Sand Hill.
– Marshals: John Marshall High School.
– Mountaineers: Waymans Ridge.
– Ridgerunners: Bowman Ridge.
– Roadrunners: Sherrard.
– Wildcats: Moundsville.
Marshall County 4-H Extension Agent Lisa Ingram said, “I invite everyone to come to a meeting and see what 4-H is all about. We are so much more than many people think — we are not only for livestock, in fact, we have projects based on just about anything you can think of including, cooking, photography, hiking, fishing, first aid, gardening, rockets and much more.”
