Marshall Memo: Tourism Day in Charleston; Construction Updates; and Movies

Three individuals from Marshall County along with representatives from Hancock, Brooke and Ohio Counties were among participants at the annual West Virginia Department of Tourism Day event held at the state Capitol.

The Marshall County representatives were Craig White, chairman of the Greater Moundsville CVB and general manager of Grand Vue Park, Olivia Archey with the CVB, and Tommy Haribol from the Palace of Gold.

White said the event enables tourism personnel from throughout the state to meet state legislators, and to distribute information concerning different attractions.

One of the first people to visit their booth happened to be my daughter, Melinda Barrett, who works at the Capitol.

In addition to this meeting, White has already been to tourism related events in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, and in two weeks will be at a similar event in Washington, D.C.

The individuals responsible for the upkeep of Limestone Cemetery are asking families who have someone buried in the cemetery to please consider making a donation so the sites can be well kept and access to them maintained.

Karen Coffield states that the Limestone Presbyterian Church does not own the cemetery, and that burial plots are deeded to the survivors of those buried there. She added that fewer burial sites remain so less money is coming into the maintenance account.

The Future of Moundsville Youth Center will be celebrating its third month of operation this week.

Pastor C.J. Plogger, of the Ash Avenue Church of God, is pleased with attendance and support of community members. The Center is for youths 6th-12th grade, and is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays from 3:30-7:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
