While two undertakings in the city of Moundsville are expected to be completed soon another project is ongoing.

The two being a bridge over the creek on Fostoria Avenue, and a concrete slab for the rental bicycle located at Riverfront Park, while the ongoing project is the 2023 paving program.

The bridge undertaking is the responsibility of the state, while the city has undertaken the bike slab. While on the subject of the latter, the discovery of an issue with the rack and locking system was discovered and City Manager Rick Healy has sent numerous e-mails to the company over the last few weeks trying to resolve the problem.

He informed members of city council on Wednesday that he had been informed that additional parts were to be shipped this week.

Healy also informed council members on this past Tuesday that two additional streets would be paved, these being Parriott Avenue from 2nd to 4th, and Sycamore from Center Street to 2nd Street, thus bringing the total to eight streets. The work is being done by Klug Brothers of Moundsville. The city manager also stated the city had received a quote for the camera system at Riverfront Park, and that the city would pay for the system with funds from the RV Park, which would benefit from the cameras.

Among city personnel matters, Evan Mobley is a probationary firefighter, and that the Police Department’s next testing date will be July 15 from which council hopes to fill four positions.

Also, the city has four open full-time positions in the Street Department due to resignations and newly budgeted laborer positions.

The West Virginia Day Scavenger Hunt was highly successful, according to personnel at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. The event was organized by personnel from the Library and the Grave Creek Mound.

While on the subject of the library, if individuals would like to learn of some of the locations which they might want to visit while in Marshall County, they can obtain free booklets at the library.

These booklets have been put together by the Greater Moundsville Convention & Visitors Bureau.

There will be a 4th of July Flag Hunt at Grand Vue Park with numerous prizes available. The hunt will start at 9 a.m.

Also, on July 4th there will be an Independence Day Celebration in the city of Moundsville, with fireworks to begin at dusk from the Marshall County Fairgrounds.

There will be two “Exploring Archaeology” events taking place on July 18 at the Grave Creek Mound.

Both will be a part of the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program.

One will be for ages 5-8 (at 11 a.m.) and the other for ages 9-12 (1 p.m.).

Both will require registration and will feature special programs and events and will be free.

Both will be sponsored by the Evan G. Roberts Trust through Truist Bank, the Robert Baker family, and many of the library’s community donors.
