Marshall Memo: Kindness; Loving a Parade; and Christmas Bazaar

Today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. is the Moundville Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. The route runs along Jefferson Avenue from Second Street to Eighth Street.

WJMH Media, the student run broadcasting services of Marshall County Schools based at John Marshall High School, will provide a live stream of the 53rd annual Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade presented by Southwestern Energy.

The broadcast will begin at 1:55 p.m. on the WJMH YouTube Page.

The parade will also be available to watch any time during the holidays by searching for searching for WJMH Media on YouTube.

In celebration of World Kindness Day, observed this past Monday, McNinch Primary School held a poster contest for its students in Kindergarten through Second grade.

The art competition was titled “Kindness Starts with Me.” Guest judges from the Marshall County School Administrative Office helped choose the winners.

Kindergarten winners first through third place where Izabel Carn, Violet Collins, and Maggie Confer.

The first grade winners were Evangeline Smith, first; Jakoba Rowe, second; and Madisyn Hartley, third.

Zoey Walker, Hudson Gomez, and Logan Helmick were the first through third place winners respectively in second grade.

The Marshall County Board of Education approved several personnel changes at the meeting held on Nov. 14.

Resignations included, Tom Romick, Assistant Drama Advisor at John Marshall High School; James Boggs, custodian at the Board of Education;

Keith Knapp, Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach at JMHS;

Kristen Espina, Robotics Advisor at Moundsville Middle School;

Leslie Yoder, Teacher of Gifted; Breagh Merinar, Aide/ECCAT at Cameron Elementary; Peggy Richmond, Library Aide at Center McMechen Elementary, and Alexa Majewski, Substitute Secretary.

Several employment/transfers were also approved including Diana Baker, substitute nurse; Jeannie Morris, long-term temporary aide; Vickie Williams, Transportation Safety Team; Douglas Williams, substitute Bus Operator; Kayla Scott Cook II at JMHS; Cynthia White, Cook II at Glen Dale Elementary; Bricie Brannan, TSA Advisor Sherrard Middle School; Bryan Berger, Head Coach/Advisor Baseball at Sherrard Middle School; Jennifer Truex, transfer to Cook II at JMHS.

New Volunteer coaches approved were Ed Dugas Wrestling at Moundsville Middle School; Gerald Miller, Track at Moundsville Middle School; and Wretha Simms, Girls’ Track (MS) at Cameron High School.

Today (Saturday) is the annual Appalachia Outreach “Fall into Christmas Bazaar the event will be held from 10: am until 4:00 p.m. at the Moundsville Center inside the Walls of the Former West Virginia Penitentiary. Admission is free and there are 60 vendors registered for the event.

The Moundsville Lions Club will be involved in a mission to obtain more members.

It is described as mission 1.5.
