Marshall County Schools Superintendent Shelby Haines this past week was joined by representatives from the school district, the Board of Education, a teachers’ union, The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce and the Marshall County Commissioners to sign a proclamation declaring Nov. 13-17 as American Education Week. This year’s theme is “Together for Safety and Equitable School.”

American Education Week spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from Pre-K through college, and the need for everyone to do his or her part in making public schools great.

Each day of the week has its own theme during which faculty, staff and students will celebrate the Marshall County Schools Community.

Festivities honor the team of people who work in the public schools including bus drivers, classroom teachers, administrative staff, cafeteria workers and others.

The first American Education Week was observed in 1921, now it is recognized annually the week prior to the week of Thanksgiving.
