Bus Routes Released; Healy Talks Parks; and Lions Look Ahead
The bus routes for the 2024-25 academic year have been posted on the Marshall County Schools website: Boe.mars.k12.wv.us.
The complete list can be found under the Links tab at the web page. Click on Transportation and then Bus Routes. Choose a bus number to download a schedule. If you’re not sure what bus your child should ride, call the MCS Transportation Department at 304-843-4422.
Each morning, make sure your child is at the bus stop a minimum of five minutes prior to the time listed. Students are not permitted to ride a bus other than the one assigned to their home address, without the prior consent from the bus garage.

On Aug. 3, several members of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce had the privilege to attend the WVU Medicine Children’s 18th annual Gala at Oglebay Park. Susie Baker was recognized for her remarkable achievements and all she has done for the students and kids in Marshall County.

A quarter auction fundraiser will be held Aug. 17 with doors opening at 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Hall in Moundsville. All proceeds will be utilized by St. Francis Conference of St. Vincent de Paul to provide utility assistance for community members in need. There will be food, raffles, door prizes,and more with the auction to start at noon. Admission is $5.

The Benwood-McMechen Public Library will present the DreamWorks movie “Over the Hedge” at 4 p.m. Wednesday Also, the chess club with Josh Phillips is offered on the first and third Thursday of every month with all ages and skills levels welcome.

During Rick Healy’s presentation at Moundsville Lions Club a couple of week ago, he shared a comprehensive list of the amenities at the various parks and recreation sites in Moundsville. He noted for a city of less than 8,000 people, the list is impressive.
East End Park consists of the following: Four Seasons Swimming Pool (indoor), Splash Pad (outdoor), two basketball courts, two pickleball courts, skate park, playground, two baseball/softball fields, batting cage (later this year), ½ mile walking trail, small shelter (available for rent) little free library, food blessing box, large open grass area, and two-level water fountain with bottle filler and pet bowl.
Park View Playground — playground, hockey court, basketball court, small shelter, little library, and fitness stations.
Riverfront Park — large shelter with kitchen (thanks in part to a land and water conservation fund grant), covered stage, playground, large open grass area, food blessing box, RV park, court for basketball and/or pickleball, and a dog park.
Ruby/Garfield Park — playground and little free library.
12th Street Boys Baseball — seven baseball fields, three soccer fields, challenge course, two wiffleball fields, two batting cages, sand volleyball court, playground, 1 mile walking trail. shelter with concession area,
12th Street Girls Softball Fields — four fields, shelter with concession area, play area.
Patterning with the National Fitness Campaign, “The Fitness Court” will be installed later in August at East End. This nearly year-long project is designed for all ages and will provide a full body workout in only seven minutes. This project was made possible by the generous donations of WVU Hospitals, the Evan G. Roberts Trust and EQT Corp. The three companies each contributed $20,000 — totaling half of the cost of the project.
With Fitness Courts across the country, Moundsville becomes only the third in West Virginia, and the first owned and operated by a municipality.

At the meeting of the Moundsville Lions Club this past Tuesday, Service Awards were presented to Moundsville Chief of Police Tom Mitchell and Lion Fred Brunner.

In other matters plans for the next six months were discussed by the group. Diane Magers, Shelby Haines, Eva Dague and Trisha Weinschenker attended officer training last week.
Thanks were given to Gene Saunders, Dave Ealy and Scott Reager for working with the vision screening at the Back-to-School Fun Fair held for Marshall County Students.
New member and new Marshall County Health Department Administrator JoAnn Dobbs were welcomed.
Trish Weinschenker announced that the county Relay for Life will have a wrap up/kickoff meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. at the First Christian Church in Moundsville, and that the CEOS will sponsor the Pink Event on Sept. 25, also at the First Christian Church. Anyone wishing to donate an item for the auction can bring it to the event.
Reager announced that a chamber event, Business After Hours, will take place on Sept. 5, and the annual Putts and Pints will be held Aug.16 at Grand Vue Park.
