Marshall Memo: Education, and More Education; Reunion; and Meet Daisy

As kids are preparing to return to the classroom, so can adults.

Reservations are being taken for the upcoming Marshall County Schools Adult Education classes. Classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and class size is limited.

No refunds will be given after the first class.

Registration is complete only after payment of tuition and/or fees.

There must be sufficient enrollment in order to have a class.

Classes being offered include Welding, Intro to 3-D printing, and preparation for high school equivalency test. To register please call 304-845-7890.

Central Elementary School’s “Back to School Clothing Drive” will be held from Aug. 5 to Aug. 16.

Donations needed are: shirts, sweatpants, leggings, underwear (new), socks (new), and shoes.

New or gently used clothing in kids sizes small to adult XL, shoes size 3-9.

Drop off locations include Ash Avenue Church of God located at 127 Ash Ave, Moundsville, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Bridgestreet Restaurant, Cameron, and Central Elementary on Aug. 14-16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Moundsville High School Class of 1964 is holding its 60th reunion on Saturday, Aug. 17th in the MEDC building (former West Virginia State Penitentiary beginning at 4 p.m., with the class picture to be taken promptly at 5 p.m.

The guest speaker at the Moundsville Lions Club at the past Tuesday meeting was Tom Hart of the Marshall County Emergency Services. He spoke about the upgrades in the communication services, different training drills attended by staff and noted the week of the Marshall County Fair having high temperatures, the group handed out ice-cold towels to attendees. At the Back 2 School Fun Fair, the Lions Club assisted with eye exams and helping purchase eyeglasses for those in need.

Lion Trish Weinschenker announced the Pink Event sponsored by the County CEOS. It will be held Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church.

This is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society with all profits going to that organization.

Lunch is being donated by the Guest House. There will be an auction of donated items, any person or business wishing to help by donating can call Weinschenker at 304-845-0290.

Relay for Life wrap up/kick off meeting will be held Sept. 5 at 6 p.m., also at the First Christian Church. Anyone wanting information about having a team is encouraged to attend.

Lion Scott Reager announced the last summer concert on Friday, Sept. 2 at Riverfront Park. President Haines gave Reager and the Chamber of Commerce praise putting together events in the county.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the Lions, should come to meeting. They meet every Tuesday at noon at the Guest House.

Monarch Stadium Community Night is moving to Sunday only beginning this week, Aug. 4, and will continue through the next three months. The public is invited to use the track and field from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. every Sunday. No pets are permitted.

Meet Daisy the Therapy Dog with Kelly Mason at 11 a.m., on Aug. 6 at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. Special programs and events are free to the public. They are sponsored by the Evan G. Roberts Trust through Truist, the Robert Baker Family, and the many community donors that the library has.

The Marshall County Board of Health has announced that effective July 1, the new Administrator is Jo Ann Dobbs, BSN, RN. Dobbs has 27 years of nursing experience and was most recently the Infections Disease Nurse for the Marshall County Health Department. The Marshall County Board of Health meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 at the First Christian Church in Moundsville. All interested individuals or delegations wishing to address the Board of Health should contact the Health Department at (304)845-7840 to be added to the agenda. The Health Department offers an immunization clinic on Mondays from 9-11 a.m and from 1-3 p.m. This includes all regular childhood and back to school immunizations. The Health Department also offers TB skin testing, pregnancy testing, STD and HIV Testing Clinic, Lab Draws, food handlers training, and CPR classes. Contact the Health Department for specific dates and times.

The Health Department is closed for lunch from noon until 1 p.m.
