Marshall Memo: Homecoming Kings and Queens, an Annual Dinner and School Personnel Shifts
A few events will be held on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 involving Marshall County Schools students, the first of which will be those participating in the school’s homecoming parade, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. and go through several streets near Monarch Stadium on Friday.
The John Marshall High School homecoming king and queen will be crowned that evening when the Monarchs host Warren Local High School. The kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
Queen candidates are: Audrey Ferguson, Madison Galloway, Emmylea Harkless-Lehew, Maitlyn Miller and Madison Walker.
King candidates include Jacob Boyette, Brooks Harrison, Kal-El Hill, Clay Howard, Silas Summers and Zander Ward.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the annual JM homecoming dance, sponsored by the John Marshall High School Student Council, will take place in the school’s gymnasium.

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner on Oct. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Moundsville Center.
The guest speaker will be U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R.W.Va., who will share her insights on topics critical to West Virginia’s future.
Also at the event, the “Dave Ealy Award for Community Service” and the “Lifetime Achievement Business of the Year” awards will be presented.
Marshall County Schools will also be honoring their “Teacher of the Year” and “Service Personnel of the Year.”

Moundsville Public Library will hold an October Book Sale on Friday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon; and Monday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday will be Bag Sale Day. The library will provide the bag and all books in it will be $3.

The next meeting of the Marshall County Association of Retired Employees (MCARSE) will be held on Oct. 10 at noon at the Heritage House in Moundsville. Guest speaker will be Gary Rider, who will give a book review.
Personal care items for the military will be collected for October’s service project. Parking is limited so carpooling is suggested. Meal reservations are due by Oct. 3 by calling Lexie.
