Marshall Memo: Coaches Named and Halloween Haunts Announced
The Marshall County Board of Education this past Tuesday approved the following coaches:
Shawn Ball and Jason Dalesio, assistant baseball coaches, Citizen Coaches, Cameron High School.
Adam Angel, Head Baseball Coach at Cameron High (HS). Citizen Coach.
Matt Francis, Head Baseball Coach, Cameron High (MS) Citizen Coach.

During the Oct. 1 Marshall County Commission meeting, commissioners took time to recognize, congratulate and thank the management and staff at Grand Vue Park for their vision, dedication, commitment and desire to making Grand Vue the perfect combination of a tourist destination with a local park feel.
“At the 2024 WV Recreation and Park Association Conference in Canaan, Grand Vue received multiple awards, and we want to recognize everyone for their achievements,” said Mike Ferro, commission president. “We look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.”
Grand Vue Park received the Austin C. Palmer Award for outstanding facilities serving a large segment of a geographic area that are aesthetically pleasing, evidence of sound design, programmed to maximum potential and in operation for at least one year.
Trishell Riggle received the Richard P. Sebastian Leadership Award for being under 30 years of age and exhibiting qualities of ambition, creativity, dedication to the recreation profession and being cooperative, hardworking and loyal in nature.
Craig White received the Presidential Citation Award for making an outstanding contribution to the field of parks and recreation above and beyond the normal duties of their profession, involvement on the national or statewide level in improving the overall park and recreation services.
Other awards Grand Vue received this year include:
2023 WV Living Awards–Regional Winner for Recreation Venue.
First Runner-up State 2023–Best Disc Golf Course.
The Times Leader First Place 2023–Best Banquet Facility and Best Family Entertainment.

The Moundsville Lions Club will conduct a meeting on Tuesday. The speaker will Jill Spangler from WVU Medicine Wheeling and Reynolds Memorial hospitals.
Also, on Oct. 23 there will be a trick and treat MEDC. Six Leos have signed up to help Lions club members.

The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library will host the Pittsburgh Puppet Works at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a special Halloween-season performance.
Back by popular demand, according to a release, this professional puppet troupe will entertain children of all ages (aimed at preschoolers to age 7) with the show “Inky’s Black Cat Blues.” In this show Inky wants to be part of the Halloween trick-or-treat frights, but who’s afraid of a cuddly cute kitty? It’s a freaky, fun filled with music, jokes, furry friends-even aliens!

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce has announced the theme for this year’s Christmas parade “Toy Trains and Candy Canes.”
Hilltop Elementary School Pre-K student Huxley Hart submitted the winning entry.
The parade will be held on Nov. 23 in Moundsville.

The Marshall County Schools Local School Improvement Council Showcase will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at the former West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville.
Each of the county’s 13 school’s will demonstrate unique aspects of its curriculum.
It’s free to attend and open to the public.
