Marshall Memo: Five-Year Reunion Planned, Books Being Released, JM Fall Production Set

Graduates and friends of the Moundsville High School Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 to begin planning the 11th five-year all-school reunion. The committee will meet at the Presbyterian Church on Third Street in Moundsville, and attendees should use the rear entrance by the parking lot. The first all-school reunion was held Labor Day weekend 1975. The next reunion will take place on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-30, 2025. Each class representative is asked to have an updated address list of class members. All are welcome to be part of this planning session to be part of this planning session and reunion activities.

A selection of scary ghost stories will be presented by world-class storyteller Alan Irvine at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library on Monday October 28 at 6:00 p.m. This presentation is geared towards adults and older students. Parents are advised that the stories are probably not suitable for children under 12. The library event is sponsored by the Robert Baker Family. Call 304-845-6922 for more information.

Authors Gary Rider and Roseanne Dakan Keller will be releasing their two Volume Book, “Memories of Reynolds Memorial Hospital.” A book signing will be from 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Moundsville -Marshall County Public Library. Volume 1 covers the history of the hospital, the nursing at the hospital, the nursing school and the nurses. Volume 2 covers the different departments of the hospital, doctors, the new hospital and staff members through the years. Both volumes contain 150 pictures each of people and the hospitals.

There will be a discount for those who purchase both of volumes the day of the signing. After Thursday, the books will be available at the library and the Moundsville Pharmacy.

Also on Thursday, Gary and Roseanne will be releasing their other new book, “Private Ullum’s War.” This book tells the story of Robert Ullum in India during World War II. It is a firsthand account of his experience from joking the military to his final time in India and Burma and concludes with his return to the United States. The information was first edited by Joseph Patriot but never published. The authors were given approval by the son to produce the book for sale.

The Monarch Company of John Marshall High School is excited to present its fall production, “The Play That Goes Wrong” (High School Edition), under the direction of Tracey Filben. The performance is a comedy about a play within a play that is full of disasters. This high energy, demanding performance brings out the best in cast and crew alike. Performances will be held in the John Marshall Performing Arts Center on Nov. 1-2 at 7 p.m., and on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. If you have a Marshall County Schools activity pass, admission is free.

The Benwood-McMcMechen Public Library will have the following activities in November:

Free Movies include “Inside Out 2” at 4 p.m. Nov. 6 and “Despicable Me 4” at 4 p.m. Nov. 20. Both are rated PG.
