Marshall Memo: A Busy Start to December
The Benwood-McMechen Public Library will have the following free activities in December. Chess Club with Joshua Phillips on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Christmas at the Library on Dec. 10 from 6-6:45 p.m.
This will be a fun filled evening with singing, dancing, and a visit with Santa and treats to follow. Stop in early for independent craft time and letter writing to Santa. There will be a free movie titled “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at 4 p.m on Dec. 18. The December meeting of the Marshall County Association of Retired School Employees will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 12 at St. John’s Church Hall in Benwood.
Luncheon reservations are due to Lexie by Dec. 5, and the cost will be $15.
The Sherrard Middle School Choir under the direction of Michael Murphy will perform at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 A monetary donation will be collected for the Salvation Army.
All retires are invited.

The Marshall County Strings program will present its elementary and middle school winter contest on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the John Marshall High School Center for Performing Art.
The concert will feature combined performances involving more than 200 students from Cameron, Center McMechen, Central, Glen Dale, Hilltop, Sand Hill, and Washington Lands Elementary Schools as well as Cameron, Moundsville and Sherrard Middle Schools. Sounds of the holidays will fill the stage with familiar pieces and unique arrangements of traditional carols.
Admission for the concert $5 for adults, $1 for students in grades K-12, and free for children give and under. Marshall County School Activity Passes and Marshall County Student IDs will be accepted in lieu of concert admission.

The Opus Christmas concert will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at the First Christian Church on Third Street in Moundsville.
Under the direct of Chuck Morrow with pianist Michael Murphy, the Opus Ladies and Gentleman singers will perform the holiday classic, “Do you Hear what I Hear?”
