Marshall Memo: An Emergency Drill; LifeSmarts; Concerts; and Celebrity Servers

An Emergency Drill will be held from 8 a.m. until noon June 4 at Moundsville Middle School. Marshall County Schools, Moundsville Middle School, and emergency responders from city, county, and state agencies are working collaboratively to prepare for potential emergencies at the school.

As part of the process an operation-based emergency training will be held at the school. Participants will begin arriving around 7 a.m. for set-up and the event may look like a real emergency –but it is just for practice. The areas surrounding MMS may be congested with extra people on site during the exercise, so please plan trips in the area accordingly and use extra caution. For the safety of participants, observers are not permitted, but the event will be reported by local media. If you have questions concerning this emergency drill contact Marshall County Schools at (304)843-4400 or Marshall County Office of Emergency Management at (304)843-1130.

Students from John Marshall High School placed fifth in the 2025 Varsity National LifeSmarts Champions in Chicago. It competitively tests high school students’ knowledge of consumer awareness, with subjects including personal finance, health and safety, consumer rights and responsibilities, technology and workforce preparation, and the environment. LifeSmarts is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in partnership programs with student leadership programs 4-H, BPS, FBLA, FCCLA, and SkillsUSA. Forty-six teams from across the county competed this year.

Local students from JMHS competed as the West Virginia State Champion Team, representing West Virginia at the national level for the seventh consecutive year. First time member Morgan Messner was also a part of the 2025 team.
