Marshall Memo: Community Events Spark Summer Interest
Marshall County is alive with gatherings and celebrations this summer. Here’s the latest on seven events bringing us together.
This week, join the Hungry for History 2025 Summer Speaker Series at noon June 30 at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. Jim Brockman offers an intimate portrait of John Adams — Founding Father, fierce advocate for independence, and devoted husband. Explore the ideals, character, and enduring love that defined one of America’s most passionate patriots. The series continues every Monday of June and July at noon. Visit cockaynefarmstead.com or call 304-845-1411 for more information.
Following that, you’re invited to the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce AM Connect Networking Breakfast at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Perkins in Moundsville. Start your morning with great conversation, new connections, and a hearty breakfast. Join fellow business and community members and hear featured guest speaker Susie Baker share exciting details about the 2025 Back 2 School Fun Fair.
RSVP today by calling 304-845-2773 or emailing chamber@marshallcountychamber.com.
Next, Community Pool Day at Cameron Pool is set from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. Enjoy free food and drinks, sponsored by Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County 911 / OEM, and Marshall County Family Resource Network.
Dive in for a fun day with slides and lifeguards!
Then, everyone’s favorite 4th of July tradition is back with the Flag Hunt at Grand Vue Park on Friday, July 4. The park will be filled with mini-American flags to exchange for more than $1,400 in prizes, including a Treetop Villa Stay, GVP Gift Cards, Big Bucks Bingo, Shelter Rental, Zipline Rides, and more. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the hunt starts at 9 a.m. It’s free to attend, but you must register by 9:30 a.m. the morning of the hunt.
Visit 250 Trail Drive, Moundsville, WV 26041, or call 304-845-9810.
Moving into mid-July, calling all Chamber members and non-profits! Join the Summer Social & Networking Night from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Grand Vue Park, outside The Vue Bar & Grill.
Enjoy live music by White Collar Criminals, network with businesses and organizations, and hear local non-profits share their missions.
Grab dinner or drinks from The Vue, bring a lawn chair, and relax. Let’s connect and grow together!
Later that month, Moundsville businesses, get ready for Christmas on the Avenue on Friday, July 19!
Decorate your doors with Christmas lights, wreaths, and holiday cheer for this festive summertime event. Expect balloons, food trucks, live music, and festive vibes. Businesses can host optional raffles and use Chamber posters to boost foot traffic. Chamber-wide advertising will drive shoppers downtown. Join us to spotlight small businesses and bring smiles with summer holiday magic!
Finally, the Moundsville High School reunion is shaping up, with 88 reservations so far. Don’t panic–there’s still six weeks to make yours! Please reserve soon. A huge thank-you to everyone who helped mail 2,200 invitations; we set a record, despite 200 returning with incorrect addresses. The venue has moved from the prison to Reilley’s Event Center in Glen Dale.
Donnie Gilbert will spin records Friday, and Eli Lambie’s band performs Saturday.
No parade, picnic, or sports luncheon this year due to low interest and logistics. Photos may be displayed Friday and Saturday.
