Marshall Memo: Community Nights; Busy Summer At Libraries; and School Honors
Monarch Stadium Community Nights are expanding to include every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday in June and July from 6-9 p.m. The public invited to walk, run, kick field goals or enjoy the facility.

The Marshall County libraries located in Benwood, Cameron and Moundsville will have several programs for students throughout the summer. Signups for the summer reading program began on June 3rd for children ages birth to sixth grade. For children aged birth to 3rd grade, a prize, book, coupon, or raffle ticket is earned for every 10 picture books completed. For older kids in grades 3 through 6, a prize, book, coupon, or raffle ticket will be awarded for every three chapter books read. The last day to turn in raffle tickets is July 28 and prizes will be drawn on July 31.
Other programs the Benwood Library is hosting in June that require registration are: June 12 at 2 p.m. “Create a Picture with Legos.” , and on June 19th at 2 p.m. “Create a Rainbow Coin Bank” with Ready Aim, Fire, Ceramic Studios will be held at the Housing Authority Building.
In June at the Moundsville Library branch, events requiring registration include “Create a Rainbow Coin Bank” on June 10th at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. On June 12 at 11 a.m., “Create a Picture with Legos will be offered. On June 26 at 2 p.m., Mothman Storytime and Craft will be held, and rounding out June activities with registration required is “How to Draw Cryptids” on June 28 at 11 a.m.
In addition to the above activities at the Moundville Library, the library will have Storytime on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and will feature McNinch Primary school teachers as guest readers. The dates and teachers reading are Kim Muldrew–June 11, Shawna Zervos–June 18, Nicole Majewski–June 25, Tara Oliver — July 9, and Stacy Lightner on July 16. Tara Oliver was also the guest Storytime reader on June 4th.
Storytime is free and open to the public; preregistration is strongly encouraged by calling the Moundville Branch at 304-845-6911.
At the Benwood-McMechen Library, Center McMechen Elementary School Teachers and Principal will be the guest readers for Storytime during the summer at 11:30 a.m. on Mondays. Dates and readers for the Benwood-McMechen location include Arica Holt on June 9, Alison Hannan on June 16, Bethany Goddard on June 23, Ruth Mozingo on July 7, and Dana Zambito on July 14.
The Cameron Library branch will also be hosting Storytime activities during the month of June beginning at 1 p.m.. On June 9 Silas Whitlatch will share “Pete the Cat Loves His White Shoes”; on June 10, Amy and Olivia O’Neil present “The Magic of Me”, June 11 will be “Dogs Colorful Day” presented by Lorena Lahew; on June 16 Hannah Neely will share “I Ain’t Gonna Paint no More” , on June 17 “It’s a Beautiful World ” will be presented by Joy Anderson, June 18, “Buckets of Color” will be shared by Janice Crawford, on June 23, “Creatrilogy – Anytime, Anything, Anywhere” will be presented by Veronica Lahew, on June 24, Jason Courtwright will share “Color Your World With a Chameleon,” Shelby Haines will share “Have a Colorful Day with Dr. Suess June 2h, and rounding out June will be Sarah Smith with “How Color Brightens Your World” on June 30.

Three Marshall County Schools have been designated as 2024-2025 West Virginia PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Tier 1 Model School. Central Elementary, Moundsville Middle School, and Sherrard Middle School were three of the 13 schools statewide to achieve this designation.
