Marshall Memo: Hungry for History; Flag Hunt; Fourth of July Parade; and Christmas
The Hungry for History 2025 Summer Speaker Series hosted by the Marshall County Historical Society and the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library continues on Mondays at noon at the Library.
Next week, June 23 the feature will be Lewis Wetzel. Joe Roxby will be speaking about the man who is undoubtedly Marshall County’s most famous son and citizen. The famed scout and fighter, Lewis Wetzel’s biography fits in the broader context of the American Revolution. On June 30, Jim Brockman will lecture on John Adams. Topics will include his belief in independence, his love of his country and for his wife and confidante Abigail. On July 7th, Sarah Smith will share a brief history of the pottery industry in Cameron. Her talk will focus on Cameron Clay Products, which operated from the 1930s until 1964.

The Marshall County Chamber Golf Scramble held at the Moundsville County Club was a big success. The presenting sponsors were WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital and Expand Energy. Izzy’s Food Truck and Catering, hole sponsors, many volunteers, and all the golfers that came out helped make the event a success. The first-place winner was Mason Dixon BBQ, second place was JNR Excavating, and third place went to Accessories Limited, LTD.

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Change Awareness Month, and Cameron Healthcare Center will be holding a community night next Thursday June 26 from 5-8 p.m. at 20 Wilson Drive in Cameron. You can shop local Cameron business tables, participate in a Chinese raffle, 50/50 drawing, and play cornhole. A portion of the table sales will be donated back to Cameron Health Care Center’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ team.

On Friday July 4, head to Grand Vue Park for a Flag Hunt.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday July 4th and the hunt will begin at 9:00 a.m. The event is free, but registration is required. Find mini-America Flags and exchange for over $1,400 worth of prizes. Some prizes include a Treetop Villa Stay, Grand Vue Park Gift Cards, Big Bucks Bingo, Shelter Rental, Zipline Rides and more.

The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual 4th of July parade and fireman’s festival on July 5th at 1 p.m. with line-up starting at noon at the Old Cameron High School, Mason Dixon Energy. The day begins at 11 a.m. with games, food, raffles and inflatables from noon to 8 p.m. A water battle will be held at 4 p.m., live music by Ali Walked will be from 8-9:30 p.m., and fireworks at dusk.
This year’s Parade Marshal will be dedicated to the memory of former Cameron Mayor Betty Scott. Her family will be present to lead the parade in her memory.
