Protecting America: Threat of Foreign Influence and Regulatory Barriers

Despite the clear benefits, opposition — often influenced by foreign interests — continues to threaten progress even in our small, rural West Virginia communities.

Burdensome regulations and meritless lawsuits are being weaponized to delay development and investment, undermining our state’s future and risking America’s national security.

These tactics stall responsible projects, discourage investors, and leave our communities exposed to economic instability and lost tax revenue to support for schools, first responders and other community needs.

It’s time we recognize these challenges for what they are: threats not just to development, but to our sovereignty and security.

The solution is not to lower our standards but to streamline them, especially for the extraction and refinement of security-sensitive minerals and materials. The Strategic and Critical Resources Act champions uniform, efficient regulations that protect the environment and uphold community standards, while removing unnecessary bureaucratic barriers that slow down vital projects.

Coordinated oversight between state and federal agencies ensures responsible development without sacrificing safety or environmental stewardship.

By prioritizing American control and stewardship of strategic resources, we safeguard our national interests and empower West Virginians with new opportunities.

West Virginia stands at a crossroads. We can choose to support President Trump, Gov. Morrisey and legislative leaders as they pave the way for economic renewal, job growth, and strengthened security — or we can allow outdated regulations and foreign-influenced opposition to hold us back.

The Strategic and Critical Resources Act, now being considered by the Legislature, is our blueprint for a brighter, more prosperous future. Let’s work together to secure our state’s legacy, by developing our resources, reforming our regulations, and investing in the people who call West Virginia home.

West Virginia Sen. Chris Rose, R-Monongalia, represents the Second Senatorial District.
