Wheeling Mayor Denny Magruder hit the nail on the head when, in his State of the City Address this past week, he said that it was the people of the Friendly City that power the engine of its success. Editor, News-Register: Although I must admit that I am a bit disappointed that the historically iconic Wheeling Suspension Bridge will remain permanently closed to vehicular traffic, it will nonetheless continue as a pedestrian bridge, as recently announced by the West Virginia Division of Highways. The City of Wheeling lost one of its best public servants with the passing of Rusty Jebbia at age 71. Jebbia spent 44 years with the city in numerous roles, starting as part of Wheeling’s engineering department, moving to assistant city manager and wrapping up his career as the city’s director of public works.
