Ohio Valley Natives at the Heart of Community Banking

At the core of every thriving business, there is often a committed commercial banking team providing essential guidance and support. Community Bank is proud to celebrate the recent hire and promotions of several of its team members in the Ohio Valley, whose hard work, experience, and commitment continue to fuel growth across our region. These professionals play a vital role in strengthening businesses, and building lasting relationships that drive our community forward.

Community Bank is proud to welcome Doug Pell to the Ohio Valley Commercial Banking team. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his previous roles. As a native of the Ohio Valley region, Pell’s passion for the community and its people drives his enthusiasm for relationship driven banking.

Pell began his banking career before he even graduated from WVU, working as a teller on his summer breaks. After graduating, he landed a role as an accountant and worked his way through the ranks until landing in Commercial Banking.

“Commercial Banking is one of the favorite departments that I have been a part of,” he says.

In his new role, Pell will be supporting the team in the loan process, while bringing new relationships to Community Bank. He looks forward to the opportunity to support local businesses and create meaningful partnerships in the community.

“When you need help, you can reach out and talk to a real person here at the bank. This is something that the big banks do not offer consistently anymore,” he says.

A lifelong resident of the Ohio Valley, Doug lives in Elm Grove with his wife and son. He’s actively involved in local organizations like Circus Saints and Sinners, the Wheeling Kiwanis Club, and participates in community events year-round.

“Serving this community isn’t just a job–it’s a responsibility I cherish,” he says.

Community Bank welcomes long time employee Karen Zonker to the Ohio Valley Commercial Team in her new role as Client Services Assistant. With over 35 years in the banking industry, and 14 years with Community Bank, Zonker has worn a variety of hats in her career, including teller, IRA administrator, mortgage loan processor, and most recently, branch manager until her recent promotion.

Zonker is excited to dive into the world of commercial banking.

“It’s nice to learn how all aspects work in the bank and seeing in real time how both retail and commercial banking cross over have been an intriguing experience,” says Zonker.

Zonker’s approach to customer relationships is the driving force of her success and what makes her such an invaluable asset to Community Bank.

“I have been able to create phenomenal relationships with some of our customers. One of the joys is when my job allows me to make a customer’s day. Being able to put a smile on a customer’s face is truly one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” says Zonker.

Outside of work, Zonker’s time revolves around her five children, three grandchildren, and two dalmatians. She has a passion for all things Disney and tries to get to Disney World every year with her family.

Community Bank would also like to congratulate and recognize Brandie McFarland for her recent promotion to VP, Treasury Management Sales Officer.

McFarland began her career with Community Bank in 2022. Drawing on her previous experience as a Client Services Assistant for the Commercial Banking team, McFarland looks forward to delivering excellent customer service to new and existing customers.

“Community Bank has made significant investments in our Treasury department and products, making it easier for our customers to manage their finances efficiently,” she says. She looks forward to using these tools to provide seamless onboarding and implementation processes for clients seeking treasury management sales support.

McFarland has worked and lived in the Ohio Valley for almost forty years and resides in St. Clairsville. Outside of her professional role, she has the fulfilling job of being her two daughters’ biggest sports fan, along with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, reading, and watching football.
