2 min read

WHEELING -- After two very successful Cardinals years, Wheeling Jesuit Director of Athletics Kevin Forde is stepping down from his post at the end of June.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Wheeling Jesuit University and am especially grateful for the opportunity to serve the University," Forde said. "I will forever be a fan of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, and will cherish the great relationships that I have made in Wheeling.

"The Jesuit, Catholic education offered at WJU is distinctive in higher education and epitomizes the very best of college athletics. I feel privileged to have been a part of this community."

Wheeling Jesuit University athletics saw several highlights under Forde -- the volleyball team made the NCAA Elite Eight twice and won the 2015 national championship, the men's basketball team made the NCAA tournament twice and reached the 2017 Sweet Sixteen, the women's basketball team also won two Mountain East Conference Tournament titles and made the NCAA tournament twice, and the wrestling team finished second in the 2017 National Duals.

Forde served as the athletics director for two years. During that time, Wheeling Jesuit University won eight conference championships and seven conference tournament championships. Academically, the Cardinals student-athletes have been just as impressive as they maintained an overall athletic department GPA above 3.0 and 280 student-athletes earned a place on the Academic All-Conference team.

"We want to thank Kevin for all he did here at Wheeling Jesuit University," Vice President for Student Affairs Dan Dentino said. "He helped bring WJU Athletics to a new level of success in the classroom and on the playing field. We wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors."

A search will begin immediately to fill the Athletic Director position.
