MORGANTOWN -- Just about anyone associated with West Virginia basketball this season understands the adversity this team has faced.
Former Wheeling Central standout Chase Harler knows this team is not about to give up.
Facing a six-game losing streak, the Mountaineers played host to TCU -- a team that still has NCAA Tournament aspirations.
In the end, the Mountaineers needed three overtimes to knock off TCU, 104-96.
"How many overtimes?" junior Chase Harler quipped. "I can't remember the last time I played more than 50 minutes in a game. It felt like 80. But, that's why we have three-hour practices."
Harler, who hit a big 3-pointer during the Mountaineers' 10-0 run in the final extra period, was one of five players to reach double digits, finishing with 13 points with four rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Freshman Jordan McCabe led the way with a career-high 25 points, finishing with an impressive double-double as he also dished out 11 assists.
"Our freshmen are all capable of doing that," Harler said. "Jordan has been gaining more confidence since he was put into the starting lineup. Derek (Culver) has been having big games all season, so we knew we had some pretty good freshmen. It just took a matter of time."
Culver joined McCabe in the double-double club, hauling down 21 rebounds and scoring 22 points. Juniors Jermaine Haley and Lamont West contributed 18 and 17 points, respectively.
"I think everybody in this league goes into every game thinking they have a good chance to win," TCU coach Jamie Dixon explained. "Each team has three games left in the regular season and we'll just have to wait and see who does what and who comes into the tournament feeling good about themselves."
The Frogs, who play host to Texas Tech on Saturday, placed five players in double figures as well. J.D. Miller led the way with 24 points followed by Kouat Noi and Desmond Bane with 17 apiece, Alex Robinson (16) and R.J. Nembhard (15).
"Tremendously," Harler replied when asked how much the team had improved over the last couple of weeks. "We've had great practices. The Big 12 is a weird league where anyone can beat anyone on any given night."
WVU (11-17, 3-12 Big 12) will put that belief to the test on Saturday when they pay a visit to Oklahoma.
