MORGANTOWN -- Two more players have elected to end their basketball career at West Virginia University following the Mountaineers' 109-91 loss to Coastal Carolina in the second round of the Roman College Basketball Tournament.
Redshirt junior Lamont West and sophomore Andrew Gordon have put their names into the transfer portal according to various media outlets, including BlueGoldNews.com.
West, who scored 945 points in his time in Morgantown, will enter as a graduate and will be eligible immediately while Gordon will either have to transfer to a D-II or D-III program or elect to sit out a season unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA.
West and freshman Emmitt Matthews Jr. were the Mountaineers' top producers in Monday night's season-ending loss, scoring 21 each.
A Cincinnati native, West played in all 36 games for the Mountaineers, starting 20 and averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 rebounds this year -- a career high.
Gordon was the Mountaineers' No. 3 center behind freshman Derek Culver and Cameron native Logan Routt. He averaged 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds while playing seven minutes per game in the 34 appearances the Clearwater, Fla., native had.
The duo joins juniors James 'Beetle' Bolden and Wesley Harris -- who was removed from the team along with senior Esa Ahmad for 'breaking Athletic Department policy' -- as well as freshman Trey Doomes.
WVU head coach Bob Huggins already has two recruits signed -- guard Deuce McBride and center Oscar Tshiebwe, fresh off recording a double-double in the McDonalds' All-American game.
The Mountaineers still have four talented freshmen returning -- Derek Culver, Jordan McCabe, Brandon Knapper and Matthews Jr. -- as well as juniors Jermaine Haley, Moundsville's Chase Harler and Routt.
Preseason All-Big 12 First team selection Sagaba Konate is still listed as part of the team, but it is still uncertain if the school record-holder in blocked shots (191) will return to Morgantown following an injury-shortened junior season.
