CRESCENT -- A pair of former Barton Braves pitchers helped Maynard end their old team's unbeaten mark in Ohio Valley Baseball League action Wednesday night.

Greyson Loweecy and Chris McIntyre combined on a two-hitter as the Indians (2-2) knocked off the homestanding Braves, 4-3, on Henning Field inside Crescent's Pramesa Park. Loweecy started and went into the fifth before McIntyre came in and slammed the door.

"Both of those guys did a really good job tonight," Maynard player/manager David Vicker praised. "Greyson was making his first start and he pitched well. Chris is going to gone for a week, so we wanted to get him some work before he took off on vacation."

Loweecy struck out three, issued six walks and scattered the two hits. McIntyre walked the first batter he faced in the bottom of the fifth, but then fanned five straight. He retired the final seven hitters he faced.

"Honestly, I just wanted to go out there and throw some strikes. It's been a while since I've pitched off of a mound," Loweecy said of facing his former team. "My slider and fastball were working fairly well, but nothing stood out. My teammates picked me up and made some plays behind me."

Indeed they did. Maynard turned three double plays including a key twin killing in the bottom of the fifth.

The Braves (3-1) had runners on second and third with no outs when former Steubenville product Niko Petrides lofted a sacrifice fly to medium depth in center.

Barton's Dmitri Collaros, another former Big Red product, easily scored from third, but Colton Coss was thrown out at third on a strong throw from Eric Banal.

"We just didn't hit the ball like we have been," Barton manager Billy Timko allowed. "Monday night against Moundsville we hit them were they weren't. Tonight we hit some balls right at them."

With the score deadlocked at one, Maynard batted around in the top of the third as it tallied three runs on four hits. The big blow was a bases-loaded two-run single by Vicker. Two batters later, Dylan Busby singled to plate Hunter Westlake with what turned out to be the game-winner.

"We had that one big inning, but we still left too many runners on base," he admitted. Maynard stranded eight baserunners.

The Braves scored solo runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

Tyler Ramsay, a former Bellaire and West Liberty product, singled twice and drove in Maynard's first-inning run.

Weirton 5, Moundsville 2

WEIRTON -- The Bobcats (1-3) picked up their first victory as Ryan Neely and a pair of relievers held the Expos (2-2) to a pair of hits.

Neely worked the first four frames, striking out two and walking one. The former Steubenville product allowed one hit.

Elijah Gillette stroked a two-run single and Jake Rosnick doubled for Weirton.

Matt Carnahan doubled for Moundsville.

Moundsville travels to Barton Friday while Weirton treks to Maynard. Both games start at 6 p.m.
