Three Record Hat Tricks In Indian Creek Victory Against Edison

RICHMOND -- The Indian Creek girls soccer team spoiled rival Edison's home opener on its new turf field.
Three girls recorded hat tricks, as the Redskins netted six goals in each half during a 12-0 victory Monday evening.
"Our passing in our first game was not as sharp as it had been in practice," Indian Creek (2-0) coach Joe Lewis said. "I think the girls were overly excited. They settled down (Monday). That is something we wanted to focus on. We wanted to settle down and pass the ball. We wanted to link passes together. We wanted to move the ball. We wanted to keep possession of the ball and keep them out of position on defense."
Indian Creek collected its first goal 32 seconds into the match. The Redskins led 4-0 less than seven minutes into the contest.
"Indian Creek was able to put some things together," Edison (0-1) coach Jordan Tice said. "They have some nice pieces to work with."
Creek's Emily Buchanan ended the game with three goals and two assists, Abby Copeland delivered three goals and one assist, and Hailey Clark contributed three goals. Rileigh Gualtiere produced a goal and two assists. Kiley Kiger and Madeline Ujcich each chipped in with a goal. Abigail Starkey and Brianna Brake each added an assist.
The Redskins used two goalies. Makenzie Taylor started and was replaced during the second half by Faith Stewart. Each goalie made three saves apiece.
"Our midfielders and forwards play well together," Lewis said.
"They have a lot of combination passes. They combination passes to create scoring chances."
The Redskins have outscored their opponents, 16-0, through two games after defeating Steubenville Catholic in their opener on Friday.
The Wildcats also used two goalies. Emma Scott started and made eight saves before being replaced during the second half by Kaydence Habbit. She stopped three shots.
"The girls are excited about having this opportunity to play," Tice said. "Hopefully, we are able to play a full season. With us not having any scrimmages or anything, the girls were pretty nervous."
The Wildcats moved to their current field for the 2011 season, and the grass field was replaced by turf prior to the start of the season.
"It is beautiful," Tice said. "We are able to practice here. A lot of schools have turf and now we are one of them. The view is beautiful up here and so is the turf field."
Tice did not get the opportunity to play on the field during her time as a player at Edison. During her career, the Wildcats played their home games in Bergholz.
"Our first game up here was in 2011," Tice said. "I only know that because that was the year after I graduated. I did not get the opportunity to play here. It is great to be playing on our field at our own school. It is nice to be playing on a turf field. It is very beautiful."
Indian Creek began playing on turf last season at Kettlewell Stadium.
"I told Jordan before the game that the field and the facility is beautiful," Lewis said. "It is a great facility. It is really nice the kids at Edison have a nice facility like this."
