WVU Will Play Gonzaga In Jimmy V Classic
Staff reports
The West Virginia men’s basketball team has picked up another game on its schedule — and it’s a big one.
WVU, ranked 15th in the Associated Press Top 25, will play No. 1 Gonzaga on Dec. 2 in the Jimmy V Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Mountaineers announced the scheduled change Wednesday.
The two teams last met in the 2017 NCAA Sweet 16, with the Bulldogz winning 61-58. Their Dec. 2 matchup will be the first game of a doubleheader, with No. 2 Baylor playing No. 8 Illinois in the second game.
This will mark WVU’s fourth appearance in the Jimmy V Classic.
The Mountaineers played Davidson in 2008, Virginia in 2015 and Florida in 2018.
West Virginia had another game scheduled for Dec. 2 — its home opener against Youngstown State. Yet that game was postponed after the Penguins paused all team activities due to COVID-19.
WVU opened its season Wednesday night against South Dakota State in the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls, SD.
