Nailers Swept By Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IND — The Wheeling Nailers allowed four power play goals and a short-handed goal in a 6-2 loss on Sunday as they were swept in a three-game weekend series to the Fort Wayne Komets inside the Memorial Coliseum.

Wheeling also netted a power play goal when Patrick McNally struck for his third goal of the campaign. Cody Sylvester and Michael Pelech earned assists on the play.

In his second game as a Nailer, Kyle Marino connected on his first goal with the team as he delivered the 1-1 equalizer in the first period on assists from rookies Matt Alfaro and Austin Fyten.

Nailers’ goalie Hayden Hawkey stopped 21 of the 27 shots that he faced.

Fort Wayne was led by Zach Pochiro who recorded a hat trick and teammate Spencer Smallman who also tallied three points with two goals and an assist.

Komets’ goaltender Louis-Phillip Guindon collected 18 saves on the 20 shots on goal the Nailers supplied.
