Pirates Take Down Braves

Ke’Bryan Hayes had two hits, including an RBI triple, for Pittsburgh. Erik Gonzalez hit a two-run homer. Tyler Anderson allowed one run and three hits in two innings. Atlanta’s Bryce Wilson gave up one hit in two scoreless innings. Pabo Sandoval had a sacrifice fly.

INDIANS 5, BREWERS 1

Yu Chang homered twice for Cleveland, backing Aaron Civale’s three perfect innings. Civale struck out three, and promising lefty Nick Allen followed him by striking out two over two more perfect innings. Eric Lauer struck out two in two innings for the Brewers but was tagged for two homers. Milwaukee had just three hits.

METS 8, NATIONALS 4

A spring training grand slam was special for the Mets’ Pete Alonso. The 2019 NL Rookie of the Year hit an opposite-field home run to right-center off Cole Henry in the fifth inning.

ROCKIES 9, MARINERS 9

Brothers Justus Sheffield of Seattle and Jordan Sheffield of Colorado faced each other for the first time in major league uniforms. Justus Sheffield started, allowed two hits and struck out one in two scoreless innings, and Jordan Sheffield allowed a run in one relief inning.

ORIOLES 6, RED SOX 3 (6)

No. 2 starter Dean Kremer struggled in his first outing for Baltimore, yielding three runs, three hits and two walks while retiring five batters. Ramon Urias hit a three-run homer. Jarren Duran, Boston’s No. 2 outfield prospect, hit his second home run and his second double. Newcomer Matt Andriese pitched two perfect innings.

PHILLIES 15, YANKEES 0 (8)

Alex Bohm hit a three-run homer off Albert Abreu, who gave up four runs in a nine-run fourth that included Rhys Hopkins’ RBI single. Matt Moore allowed one hit and one walk in two shutout innings.

TIGERS 8, BLUE JAYS 2 (7)

Miguel Cabrera drove in his first run with a double for Detroit. Ace Spencer Turnbull allowed two runs and four hits in two innings. Cavan Biggio had an RBI triple for Toronto. Bo Bichette went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and an error.

RAYS 5, TWINS 2 (7)

Ryan Yarbrough pitched a scoreless inning, Manuel Margot had two hits and Randy Arozarena singled in a run. Minnesota ace Kenta Maeda struck out three in two perfect innings.

GIANTS 3, WHITE SOX 1 (7)

Alex Wood fired a scoreless inning in his first appearance since signing with San Francisco, and Joe McCarthy and Darin Ruff homered during a three-run fifth. Prized prospect Heliot Ramos had two hits. Lance Lynn, also making his debut with a new team, struck out three in two scoreless innings for Chicago.

RANGERS 5, PADRES 3 (7)

Joey Gallo had a three-run homer and an RBI double to account for most of Texas’ offense. Brock Holt doubled and scored on Nick Solak’s single. MacKenzie Gore walked three over two scoreless innings in the start for San Diego. Nick Tanielu hit a three-run homer in the first inning.

DIAMONDBACKS 9, ANGELS 1

Madison Bumgarner struck out six over two scoreless innings, overpowering for Arizona in his first start of the spring. Diamondbacks pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, and Eduardo Escobar, Trayce Thompson, Josh Rojas and Daulton Varsho all homered.
