W.VA. PREP BASKETBALL PREVIEW: Hundred Boys Lose Four Starters From 2019-20
HUNDRED — The 2019-20 Hundred boys basketball team had a season to remember. The Hornets issued a winning record of 15-9, beat Cameron for the first time in over a decade and earned a spot in the OVAC Class 1A semifinals.
Yet Hundred lost seven players to graduation, including four starters.
“We lost seven seniors and with being a small school, that was a great group of kids to coach,” Hundred coach Virgil Wilkens said.
“It was the best record we had here for about 18 or 19 years.”
Those seniors included Cody Soles who averaged 21.5 points and 11 rebounds per night. The Hornets also lost Logan Norris, who averaged double figures in scoring, along with Adam and Aaron Stevens from the starting lineup.
Senior Bobby Hostutler is the Hornets’ lone returning starter.
“We’re quite inexperienced, but we’re going to do the best we can with the boys,” Wilkens said.
Hostutler is one of five seniors on the roster. Cody Poe, Gauge Boston, Illias Fox and Dylan Walton are the others, while Colton Whitehill, Christian Fluharty and Dylan Ray are the juniors.
The underclassmen are sophomores Everett Johnson and Jeffery Morris while David Morris is the lone freshman.
“We open up with Tygarts Valley and then the following night we go to Cameron,” Wilkins said.
“A lot of these ball games will be close together. We’ve done a 17-game schedule plus the sectional tournament.”
