West Virginia’s Sean McNeil Entering NBA Draft, Jordan McCabe to Transfer

MORGANTOWN (AP) — West Virginia guard Sean McNeil is entering his name in this year’s NBA Draft but leaving open the possibility to return to the Mountaineers, while teammate Jordan McCabe has announced his plans to transfer.

Both players announced their decisions Tuesday on Twitter.

McNeil, a junior, started 23 of 29 games for the Mountaineers (19-10), who lost to Syracuse on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. McNeil was fourth in scoring on the team at 12.2 points per game. He led the team in 3-pointers made with 69.

McNeil paced the West Virginia offense against the Orange as he delivered a 23-point performance as he hit seven shots from behind the arc. He had four 20-point games this year and with a season-high 26 points in a victory over Texas Tech on Feb. 9. He scored in double figures in 18 games during the 2020-21 season.

On the season, he shot just over 40% percent from the floor (40.9) and 38% from long range (38.8).

During the 2019-20 season, he played in 28 games averaging 15 minutes. McNeil averaged 5.5 points per contest.

McCabe, a junior guard, started five games and averaged 2.2 points this season. He started 29 of 31 games a year ago.

He had a season-high 10 points in a victory over Texas Tech on Jan. 25.

During his freshman campaign in the 2018-19 season, McCabe started in 15 of the the 35 games he played in and averaged 18.5 minutes.

He averaged 5.8 points per game (208 totlal) and dished out 2.5 assists.

He averaged 13.5 minutes during his sophomore year while averaging 3.1 points per contest.
