Wheeling Elks Hosting Junior Golf Tournament
WHEELING — The summer of golf returns to Oglebay’s Crispin Golf Course again.
The Wheeling Elks Lodge 28 will be sponsoring the Junior Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 23 for ages 10-18 and a Par 3 for those ages 7-9.
The best part? It’s free.
“Two years ago when I ran it, it was close to 50 kids signing up,” tournament director Bobby Joseph said. “We have alomst 31 signed up now.
“Since we offer it for free, it’s nice for the kids to come out. I know kids are doing the Top Flight and Titleist Tournaments to get exposure but since it’s free, hopefully there will be a good turnout.”
So far so good as kids from all ages and all locations have circled the calendars to tee off on Crispin’s links.
“There are people from everywhere,” Joseph said. “There is a kid from Wooster, OH. John Marshall golf coach Dave Gaudino sent out invites to all OVAC coaches so those kids are getting them, too.”
Entries must be received by 6 p.m. on June 20 and registration is at 7 a.m. on June 23 at Crispin. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Girls and boys ages 10-12 will play 18 holes from the Gold Tees, girls ages 13-15 will hit from the Red Tees, boys ages 13-15 will play from the White Tees, girls ages 16-18 will shoot from the White Tees and boys ages 16-18 will show off their strength from the Blue Tees.
Spectator carts are available one per entry at no charge but must be 18 years old to drive.
Registration for the Par 3 course is at 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun start begins at 11:30 a.m.
Trophies will be handed out to first, second and third place finishers in each age group.
Entry forms are available at most area golf courses and Joseph can be reached at 304-277-4446 for more information.
