‘Best Virginia’ Ousted in TBT
CHARLESTON — No. 2 seed Best Virginia took the entire state of West Virginia on a thrilling ride this summer, which went through Wheeling during the exhibition and journeyed all the way to The Basketball Tournament Sweet 16 and the West Virginia Regional.
However, that’s where the road ends as Best Virginia was bested in Charleston on Wednesday night by No. 6 Team 23, which pocketed a 75-67 triumph.
Best Virginia trailed just 66-65 entering the Elam Ending but shot just 5 of 18 from the field during the timeless period of play and was outscored 9-2 during that span.
Kevin Jones paced Best Virginia with 14 points, while Nathan Adrian tallied 12, John Flowers followed with 11 and Jamel Morris added 10.
Best Virginia drained five treys in the opening frame for a 21-17 edge but fell behind 44-37 at halftime as Team 23 shot 68% in the second.
An 11-0 run catapulted Best Virginia back on top 57-53 entering the fourth but the sixth seed in the West Virginia Region was too much down the stretch and ultimately ended Best Virginia’s memorable TBT journey.
