Burton, Flowers could make an impact on Saturday

BETHANY -- John Marshall's Dalton Flowers and Alex Burton are used to putting on a show.
The dynamic duo racked up the yardage and the points on the ground this year for the Monarchs and will now get to showcase their skills on the Ohio Valley's biggest stage Saturday in the 75th OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Game at Wheeling Island Stadium.

What makes it even better is that they are enjoying the ride together as teammates -- just as they have done in the past in a Monarch uniform.
Of course, each back had his own specialty this year for JM.
For Flowers, it was his power that made him an all-state back.
"It's always nice to have somebody you can trust when you get tired and need a break," Burton said. "He is really good at getting the short yards and that helped me out a lot."
Flowers ran for 1,384 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground, while Burton used his speed to gallop past defenders for 887 yards and nine scores.
"We're always staying fresh out there," Flowers said. "Either I can come out and he can go in or he comes out and I go in. He has the speed that I was lacking so it always worked out that way."
It became almost a tradition at John Marshall this past season that one or both tailbacks would scamper for over 100 yards on a Friday night.
When they were both getting involved, they could explode for a monster gain on any given snap.
"Those big-yard games we had," Burton said of his top memory of his senior campaign. "It was nice having the support of the fans, too, during a COVID year. Parents could come for a little bit and then when everybody came back that helped us out a lot with all of them there."
The electric Monarchs will also give Linsly and West Virginia coach B.J.Depew an added dose of talent on either side of the ball.
"They run hard. I've seen Alex run the ball hard on film," Depew said. "Dalton is very versatile. He can play either back, wide receiver and no doubt we're going to use him on defense. Don't be surprised if you don't see him on both sides.
"I'm excited about both of these guys."
