Doerr, Goodrich Captain Fifth All-Valley Golf Team

Justin Doerr, Wheeling Central

Captain

He has been making his name heard on golf courses throughout Wheeling since he first came on the scene as a freshman. Doerr is now making his third straight appearance on the All-Valley golf team as a junior and has earned the honor of captain this time around. The Central standout placed second in the state in Class A with a card of 163 to catapult Wheeling Central to runner-up honors. He also placed second at the OVAC Tournament with a card of 71, while shooting an 80 at the regional event to help lift the Maroon Knights into the state tournament for the first time since they won the whole thing in 2018. Doerr will have his eyes on a possible state title as a senior.

Gavin Goodrich, Wheeling Park

Captain

A year after being a major contributor on Wheeling Park's state title team, Goodrich became the leader of the Park this year. He placed fourth at state with a card of 158, sparked by a 74 on Day 2. That second day score was the best round of the state tournament by anyone. Goodrich defeated teammate Owen Leary and John Marshall's Colton Sprowls in a playoff to capture the OVAC crown with a score of 80. He also turned in a card of 76 at the regional event in Moundsville to pocket the regional title, leading Wheeling Park back to the state tournament. With one year left in his high school career, Goodrich will have his sights set on a state crown.

Dryden Bauman

Barnesville

When the pressure was on, so was Bauman. The Barnesville senior fired a 79 to earn All-OVAC accolades while leading his team to runner-up honors behind Fort Frye who won the tiebreaker. He turned in a 76 at the district event to just miss qualifying for the state tournament, as well. Bauman was named All-MOVL this year and finished his final season with the Shamrocks with a 9-hole average of 39.

Brooke Chamberlain

St. Clairsville

This St. Clairsville senior has been striving to improve every year of her prep career and she finished strong. Chamberlain qualified for the district tournament for the first time this year, where she placed 12th with a score of 91. At the sectional match, she placed 10th and was fifth at the OV Girls Invitational. At season's end, Chamberlain wrapped up her career with an average of 45 for 9 holes and an 88 for 18.

Ethan Cook

John Marshall

It's not quite wrestling season but Cook is already making noise. The multi-sport standout led John Marshall's golf team to state for the first time in roughly 15 years as he turned in a 78 at the regional tournament. He was solid at state, as well, where he turned in a card of 170. His success started early in the season and he improved as the year went along. He even fired an 85 at the OVAC Tournament.

Ryan Costanzo

Wheeling Central

What a year to remember for Costanzo. The Wheeling Central standout was brilliant on the golf course when it mattered most. He fired a 77 at the regional event to place second overall and lead the Knights back to state, where he shot a 170 to secure all-state accolades. Costanzo earned All-OVAC honors, as well, after shooting a 74. When the state tournament wrapped up, he called it a season he would never forget.

Saul Crist

St. Clairsville

The St. Clairsville golf team leaned heavily on this senior leader during the 2021 campaign. Crist could be counted on in any situation and he always came through. He finished his final season with the Red Devils with a 9-hole average of 38 and fired a 79 over 18 holes. He brought home top honors at the Buckeye 8 Tournament and was also solid at the OVAC Tournament, where he secured all-conference accolades.

Breanna Flood

Barnesville

What Flood accomplished this year was remarkable. What's even more impressive is that she still has one year left to improve. She was the Female Mid-Ohio Valley League Champion and won the Ohio Valley Girls Invitational, as well. In the midst of her stellar run, she became the first Barnesville female to qualify for the district touranment, where she finished tied for 16th. Flood placed 10th at sectionals and had an average of 43.

Brodi Foster

St. Clairsville

This is a name people will be hearing in the Ohio Valley for a long time to come. Foster is a left-handed freshman who recorded many accomplishments in 2021. Those achievements included All-Buckeye 8, All-OVAC and All-OVGL on his way to recording a 9-hole average of 38 and an 18-hole average of 80 throughout his breakout campaign, making him one of the top golfers to watch heading into next season.

Will Foster

St. Clairsville

St. Clairsville golf coach Ryan Clifford thoroughly enjoyed the last four years coaching Will Foster. The senior wrapped up a stellar career with another memorable season. He captured the OVAC and sectional crowns and was named to the All-Buckeye 8 and All-OVGL teams. He finished the season with a 9-hole average of 39 and an 18-hole score of 76.

Adam Gill

Linsly

Another name that will be heard for years to come in the Ohio Valley golf world resides with the Cadets. Gill broke on the scene this year as a freshman as he led Linsly's golf team in nearly every event it played. When the spotlight shined the brightest, Gill was up for the test as he earned runner-up accolades in the OVAC Tournament with a card of 75. He even led for much of the event until Barnesville's Carter Wells caught fire late.

Campbell Koegler

Wheeling Park

After finishing the year with all-state honors, Koegler is motivated to get back at it and try to compete for another state title next year. This season, he shot a 164 to earn seventh place at the state tournament and carded an 83 at the OVAC Tournament, which was only one shot shy of earning an all-conference honor. Koegler was also key for the Patriots at the regional, where he turned in an 87.

Beezer Porter

Union Local

Porter did something this year that hasn't been done since 2013 at Union Local. He became the first UL golfer to reach the district tournament in eight years. He also earned All-OVAC and All-Buckeye 8 honors. In the OVAC Tournament, Porter drained not one, but two eagles. He finished his junior season with a 9-hole average of 42 and an 18-hole average of 80 for UL golf coach Zach Delman.

Colton Sprowls

John Marshall

One key reason for John Marshall's success this season was the play of Sprowls. His experience of playing in last year's state tournament paid dividends this year as he shot an 84 at the regional to help put JM over the top. He carded a 169 at state, too, but perhaps the most exciting moment of the 2021 campaign came in the OVAC Tournament, where Sprowls forced a playoff but ultimately finished third.

Carter Wells

Barnesville

Perhaps the most impressive performance in 2021 on the Ohio side of the river belonged to Wells. He was crowned the OVAC 3A champion and the Mid-Ohio Valley League medalist. Wells was named all-tournament at the Circle K Invite and the Waterford Invite and just missed qualifying for the state touranment. The senior finished the campaign with a 9-hole average of 37.
