Hartley K’s 21 in Win, Fluharty Tosses No-No
CAMERON — A pitchers’ duel for the ages!
The win went to Cameron’s Lance Hartley who recorded all 21 outs by way of a strikeout, while allowing just one hit in the process.
The hard-luck loss went to Christian Fluharty who fired his third no-hitter of the season with 17 strikeouts. However, five errors allowed Cameron to add to the win column.

MYRTLE BEACH SC — Hayden Brown was nearly unhittable in a Mingo Bay Classic elimination game as he fired 10 strikeouts with one walk and two hits allowed in a complete game triumph over PikeView.
He also delivered a double and a single. Alec Chaplin garnered two hits and two RBI for the Silver Knights, while Weston Henderson drove in a run and Owen Westbrook doubled.
Bridgeport (WV) 7 Linsly 1
WHEELING — In an OVAC tuneup game for Linsly, the Cadets fell to baseball powerhouse Bridgeport.
Dillon Wilson provided the offense for Linsly as he turned in two hits and a RBI.
The Cadets host Barnesville at noon Saturday in an OVAC semifinal in what should be an outstanding battle.
Spring Valley 5, John Marshall 1
GLEN DALE — Ethan Neely turned in a single and a double and Conner Blatt provided a single and a RBI for John Marshall but the Monarchs fell to visiting Spring Valley.
Wheeling Central 14 Charleston Catholic 1
CHARLESTON — Michael Toepfer accounted for three hits and four RBI as Wheeling Central pounded Charleston Catholic.
Seth Cover secured the complete game victory with seven strikeouts.
Ben Foster doubled and plated two in the victory.
Wheeling Central 12 Notre Dame 5
CHARLESTON — Ben Foster doubled, singled and drove in two runs to complete a double-header sweep, this time beating Notre Dame.
Landon Prager was victorious with six strikeouts in six frames.
Gary Hatfield supplied two hits and a RBI and Peyton Hildebrand added a hit and three RBI.
Bellaire 9, River 5
NEFFS – Jake Heatherington fired a five-hitter as the Big Reds defeated the visiting Pilots. The junior struck out six and walked a pair.
Brayden Roth doubled for one of the winners three hits off Colton Cisar who fanned a pair of issued five walks. He also singled and doubled.
SOFTBALL
John Marshall 2, Edison 1
GLEN DALE — Ryleigh Morgan fanned five and walked two in a complete game victory as John Marshall downed Edison.
Morgan only allowed two hits in the win.
Adrianna Skrzyneki singled, doubled and plated a run, while Sophia Adkins added a hit and a RBI for the Monarchs (14-5).
Barnesville 18-8, Bridgeport 1-6
BARNESVILLE – The host Shamrocks swept a softball doubleheader from Bridgeport at Memorial Park by scores of 18-1 and 8-6.
Freshman Payton Dudzik had a day to remember for Barnesville as she drove in four runs in the opener with a single and three triples. In the nightcap, she also recorded four RBI with a single and home run.
Ellie Thompson registered two singles and a trio of doubles to plate two runs, while Savanna Robinson knocked in three runs with two singles in the first game.
Hailee Aubrey singled three times for the Bulldogs in the nightcap. Brooke Stewart had two one-base raps in the opener.

ST. JOE – Majestique Jackson went six strong innings inside the circle, striking out four and walking four as the Big Reds toppled the visiting Pilots.
She also homered and drove in two runs, while Grace Maupin recorded three RBI and Lizzie McAninch doubled in two runs.
Rylee Knight singled and homered to account for two runs for River.
Toronto 8, Buckeye Local 7
CONNORVILLE – The Panthers ran out of magic and runs as the Red Knights staved off their valiant comeback bid. Trailing 8-0, Buckeye Local scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and five times in the seventh, but fell one run short.
Alexus Williams drove in three runs for the Panthers with a single and two doubles. Isabella Hepburn singled twice to plate a run and Josey Meddles singled and doubled.
Brooke 18, St. Clairsville 3
WELLSBURG – In a game moved from St. Clairsville, the Bruins tallied 10 times in the bottom of the fourth inning to run away from the Red Devils.
Hannah Thoburn and Alex Hale each knocked in a run.

Wheeling Central 17 Capital 1
CHARLESTON — John Emmerth netted five goals as Wheeling Central stomped Capital on the road.
Ethan Taylor garnered four goals for the Maroon Knights, Braxton Anderson tallied three, Parker Watkins collected two and Nate Woods, Matthew Maroney and Lucca Ferrera added one each.
Anderson and Watkins each dished out two assists and Maroney and Taylor each added one.

WLU Men’s Golf Collects 8th Straight Regional Bid
INDIANAPOLIS — Ranked No. 3 in the final set of NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, the West Liberty University men’s golf team has earned its eighth consecutive NCAA Division II regional tournament berth.
According to Friday night’s official release on the NCAA website, Coach Thadd Obecny’s Hilltoppers will be headed to Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, N.Y. early next month to compete with 19 other teams in the combined East/Atlantic Regional.
It’s one of four 20-team regionals that will set the field for the NCAA Division II Nationals. Hosted by Le Moyne (N.Y.) College, the 54-hole Atlantic/East Regional is scheduled for May 5-7 at the challenging Empire State course just outside of Rochester. The pristine 7,083-yard, par 72 layout has been ranked as one of the Top 100 public courses in the nation by Golf Digest.
The top three teams and the top two individual;s not with one of the three qualifying teams from each regional will qualify to compete in the national championship tournament. An additional eight at-large team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in last year’s head-to-head medal play portion of the championships.

Vandusen, Reeves Rep Well at Jesse Owens Classic
COLUMBUS — Wheeling University senior Brian Vandusen and sophomore Jabez Reeves were the two athletes in action as they competed in the 200-Meter Dash and the Men’s Long Jump. These were the two athletes that represented Wheeling in the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships and they are trying to get back to the National Stage during the outdoor season. Both had strong performances on e again to start the event, but neither would come away with a PR. They each finished in the top 15 of their respective events, However, and will look to use that momentum moving forward.

WESTERVILLE — Leading the way for the Cardinals at the Otterbein Twighlight was distance runner Izaiha Browning, who competed in two different events throughout the day. He brought home the team’s first and only gold medal performance in the Men’s 1500. He set a new PR in the event, finishing in 4:03.12 and setting a new PR for the season. Browning was just getting started as he would return a few events later in the Men’s 800-meter. While he didn’t finish as highly as he did in the 1500, it was still another strong performance for the freshman as he continues his first outdoor season. He would finish fourth in the 800-Meter with a time of 1:58.91 as he set a new PR by breaking the 1:59.00 mark for the first time in his collegiate career.
Sprinters Take Home Two Golds
Westerville, OH. – It is a split week for the Wheeling Women’s Track & Field team as they head into the final week of the Outdoor Regular Season. The first group of women took the track and field on Friday at the Otterbein Twilight event. While there were strong performances throughout the event, it was the sprinters who took center stage, bringing home two golds at the event.
The gold medal performances began right away as Isha Sesay started the day in the fourth heat of the 100-Meter Hurdle qualifiers. She posted the top time in the Qualifier event at 13.52 seconds to set a new PR and qualify for the finals. She ended up placing second overall with an equal time of 13.52 seconds to finish on a high note. Once they took the hurdles away, the Cardinals kept on winning as Ka’niya McGowan took home her first gold of the season. She set a new PR, running a 12.50 to qualify for the finals with the fastest time of the Qualifier. She held onto her top spot, posting an even faster time in the finals when she ran a 12.17 for her first gold of the outdoor season. The final gold from the sprinters came in the 400-Meter Hurdles when Jenay Soumahro won the event in 1:05.15.
