Paden City Combines for No-Hitter

PADEN CITY — Kayden Myers and Brandon Rone combined to toss a no-hitter on Wednesday as Paden City pounded visiting Parkersburg Catholic 16-0.

Myers got the start and fired 10 strikeouts with one walk in four innings.

Rone recorded the final two outs with a pair of punchouts to finish the job.

At the plate, Ashton Little doubled, tripled and plated two runs, Rone had a triple, a single and two RBI and Brandon Hizer doubled, singled and drove in a run.

In the nightcap against Clay-Battelle, the Wildcats fell 8-0 but Will McGinnis struck out 11.

John Marshall 4, Parkersburg South 3

PARKERSBURG — Dillon Wright struck out nine as John Marshall went on the road and upended Parkersburg South.

Gage Mikels amassed two hits and a RBI in the win, while Ethan Neely doubled and singled.

Braden Sobutka contributed a hit and a RBI for JM and Brennan Sobutka and Grant Neiswonger each drove in a run.

Tyler Consolidated 7, Doddridge County 1

DODDRIDGE — Tyler Consolidated improved its record to 12-2 as it went on the road and upended Doddridge County.

Jayden Helmick was lights out on the mound as he struck out 12 hitters and walked just one without giving up a run in just under six innings.

At the dish, Helmick turned in a single, a double and a RBI, as did Carson Gorby.

Ty Walton doubled and singled in the win, while Hayden Brown doubled and plated a run and Weston Henderson garnered a hit and a RBI.

Garrett Ammons drove in two runs for the Silver Knights and catcher Zade Billings plated one.

Frontier 14, Magnolia 0

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Kaleb Starkey struck out six and only walked one but Magnolia fell to Frontier.

Brayden Vargo fanned three with no walks in relief for the Blue Eagles.

Steubenville 16, Brooke 5

WELLSBURG — Zach Smith had three hits and a RBI as Steubenville beat Brooke.

Garrett Hornick paced the Bruins with two hits and a RBI.

SOFTBALL

Oak Glen 19-16, Fairmont Senior 0-0

FAIRMONT — The Oak Glen softball team played two games in Marion County on Wednesday, scoring a combined 35 runs while getting back-to-back no-hitters from its pitching combo of Maddie McKay and Lizzie Kell.

The Golden Bears defeated Fairmont Senior, 19-0, in five innings and North Marion, 16-0, in three innings.

Against the Polar Bears, McKay struck out 11 of 17 batters faced to turn in the first no-hitter of the day, walking two.

At the plate she hit a double and had an RBI to help her own cause, while Sydney Brown doubled twice and drove in two runs.

Against the Huskies, an 11-run top of the third enacted the mercy rule while Kell fanned six for the second no-hitter of the day by an Oak Glen pitcher, issuing just one walk.

University 4, Wheeling Park 2

MORGANTOWN — University hit a walk-off home run to defeat Wheeling Park in 10 innings.

Hayley Thompson doubled and singled for the Patriots, while Makenna Kelly tallied a RBI.

Wahama 7, Tyler Consolidated 3

WAHAMA — Braden Wall doubled and drove in two runs but Tyler Consolidated fell to Wahama.

Wall also pitched and struck out five with no walks.

Briann Templeton provided a hit and a RBI for the Silver Knights.

Linsly 5, Wheeling Park 2

WHEELING — Edoardo Ciato, Wesley Palmer and Stefan Mihajlovic all won singles matches to send Linsly past Wheeling Park.

Nick Trischler was the lone singles winner for the Patriots.

Indiana (Pa) 9, West Liberty 7

INDIANA, PA — Colton Burd hit a walk-off home run as Indiana (Pa) defeated West Liberty.

Brad Goodyear paced the Hilltoppers with a home run, two singles and two RBI, while teammate Ty Helmke also went deep, along with a double and two RBI.

Clarion 12, Wheeling 9

WHEELING — Riley Cameron homered, singled and drove in three but Wheeling fell to Clarion.

Linsly grad Kobe Hill garnered three hits and a RBI for the Cardinals and teammate Blake Vandiver added three hits.

SOFTBALL

Concord 12-9, Wheeling 7-1

WHEELING — Autumn Oehlstrom homered, delivered two singles and drove in two runs in a doubleheader opener but Wheeling ultimately fell in both games to Concord.
