Wheeling Park Softball Storms Past St. Clairsville

WHEELING — Makenna Kelly launched home runs in consecutive innings and Wheeling Park ran away from the visiting Red Devils 13-4 Thursday afternoon.
Kelly’s first blast plated two in the fourth and then she tacked on a 3-run shot in the bottom of the fifth. That was part of a three-inning stretch between the third and the fifth when the Patriots scored 10 runs.
The Red Devils grabbed held a 3-1 lead after the first two innings thanks to back-to-back RBI knocks by Rachel Finnical and MaKenna Moran in the top of the second inning. Abby Salisbury added a solo shot in the top of the third, but by then, Wheeling Park’s scoring onslaught had already begun.
Shelby Crow got the win for Park, striking out four in the circle. Kelly finished with four hits, two homers, a double and a single, and five runs batted in. Katelyn Kozlowski notched two hits and three RBI and Dalaney Theiss had a single and two RBI.
Salisbury led St. Clairsville with her home run, a double and a single while Hannah Thoburn smacked a double.

VINCENT, Ohio — A couple of early runs and a stellar pitching performance helped the Monarchs improve to 13-5 on the season with a 2-1 road win Thursday.
Ava Blake and Adrianna Skrzyneki each drove in a run in the top of the first inning and that was all the support starter Kadence Pettit needed.
Pettit dominated in the circle, striking out 11 while surrendering just one hit. Warren pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh, but JM held on to secure the win.
Aiyanna Hancock was nearly just as good for Warren, striking out 10 and allowing just five hits, but John Marshall’s early runs held up for the entire game.
River 6, Frontier 1
BEAVERTON — River picked up its seventh win in 10 outings on Thursday by toppling Frontier, 6-1.
The Pilots received another strong mound effort from Max Castro. He struck out eight, walked two and allowed only three hits and the run the Cougars pushed across was unearned.
Offensively, the Pilots received two doubes, a triple and two RBI from junior Brody Lollathin. Lucas Dennis had a RBI. Peyton Blue had a double and Hunter Nething added three singles.
SOFTBALL
Harrison Central 13 Indian Creek 4
CADIZ — The Huskies continued their strong play with a decisive victory against the Redskins on Thursday.
Tristen Kovarik got the win in the circle with two strikeouts and a walk.
Offensively, the Huskies received three singles and four RBI from Sarah Touville. Olivia Tonkovich had a single and two RBI.
Maddy Butler had three singles, while Alina Williams added two singles and a RBI. Jenna Young had a double and two RBI.
Indian Creek was led by Emileah Booth’s single and two RBI.

RICHMOND — Edison ace Katie Fluharty baffled the invading Panthers to the tune of a no hitter.
Fluharty struck out 12 and issued two walks. She helped her own cause with a hit and two RBI.
Savanna Ankrom had a double, triple and drove in a run for the Wildcats.
