Central Lacrosse Is On To State Championship

WHEELING — The title is within reach for the Wheeling Central lacrosse team.

The Maroon Knights upended George Washington 11-7 on Saturday for the WVSLA Western Region Championship at the 16th Street Field.

Central will travel to Davis & Elkins College on Saturday to take on Spring Mills for the state championship game.

Leading the Knights to victory was John Emmerth with four goals, an assist and nine shots on goal.

Braxton Anderson, T. Ryncarz and Ethan Taylor each netted two goals, while Nate Woods added one and three assists.

Anderson also turned in three helpers.

Deante Suggs collected 17 saves to help the Knights clinch a title game spot.

TORONTO — Dom Bouscher struck out 10 and Evan Wolter collected three hits and three RBI as Toronto shut out Bridgeport.

Indian Creek 13, Claymont 10

MINGO JUNCTION — Indian Creek, the No. 12 seed in the bracket, had opened a 7-1 lead, only to give up nine-straight runs and found itself down 10-7 in the fifth inning.

However, the last big inning of the back-and-forth battle belonged to Creek, now 12-10, as the hosts drove in six runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead and did not look back enroute to advancing.

Jack Amis paced the Redskins with a single, a double, a home run and three RBI.
